Its that time again

Well its time to upgrade again... I've put off on upgrading my video cards since I don't really play any terribly intensive games with any regularity, but yesterday I downloaded the F.E.A.R. demo and these 6800 Ultras are starting to show their age. My question for all you guys n' gals who keep up on the industy is this:

Should I upgrade right now, or should I wait until Nvidia's "Next Big Thing"? I only play WoW and EQ2 with any kind of regularity, but as I try out newer games, like I said, the cards are showing their age. Will the newest Nvidia chipset be worth a wait of 2 or 3 months? Will it be wise to go ahead and upgrade now?

If I do upgrade, it will be to a dual 7800GTX configuration - should I wait a lil while for Nvidia's newest offerings to hit the market? Advice, if you would be so kind! I should mention that cost is no object... I just wanna know if it would be stupid to upgrade to dual 7800GTXs and then 2 - 3 months later, a new Nvidia card comes out that's almost as powerful as that combo in just one card...

Just get the 7800GTX SLI now. Sell that when the next big thing comes out. You'll lose a bit of money, but then again, cost is no object.

You're welcome. I can tell you like the finer things, so I'd wait a month and see if there's any substance behind the 512MB and/or Ultra rumors.

Ya just wait till you get to university...atleast in highschool I could handle a job and school, but engineering + work = death, impossible to pull off unless your a genius or go to an easy school.

How about buy a single 512mb gtx when it comes out soon, and then see how it plays out (pun intended) later. If dual ultras only lasted you a little over a year, then what makes you think dual gtx's will last any longer, and was the second ultra really worth the money if it's lifetime was so short?

I don't have a job anymore. I tried to tell some folks here at Anandtech how they could do the same thing I did - be able to afford the newest toys and not have to show up anywhere and answer to anybody on a daily basis, but I was ridiculed and shooed away, of course that might just be General Forum's way, I dunno.

At any rate... if you wanna be able to afford toys, just start buying real estate and rent it out. Start small with a residental single-family home... before you know it, you'll be buying duplexes, fourplexes, then 8-plexes and higher... one day, you'll wake up, realize you're making $7,000 a month from cashflow of the properties, and realize you can quit your job - for life. From there, you can either choose to expand your empire, or just putz around doing whatever you want...

Send me a PM and I'll give you a list of all the books I've read to date about real estate and every seminar I've been to, if you're curious... if not that's fine too... Just remember to study hard in high school, and go to college as well... regardless of what you do... my best friend since I was a kid owns enough properties to say to hell with going for graduate degree, but he's still studying and still going to graduate with a Ph. D. in chemistry... so get that college education if you can.

R580 is supposed to just tear up the current generation. Supposedly it will be released in late Q1 of next year.

i'd wait for 7800GTX 512MB or ultra or whatever nvidia is coming out with. see what kind of performance you'll get on various review sites, then buy.

damn you, i wish i had the luxury of buying high-end stuff...
