Recycling propaganda? Wtf are you talking about?

When I was in grade school (the 80's) there was a concerted effort to "teach" kids to recycle. We only heard the Sierra Club side of the argument for recycling, which has the effect of brainwashing. As far as recycling, watch the Penn & Teller BS episode if you think it is actually doing any good.

The BS ep on recycling centered on the profitability of recycling programs and the scare of running out of landfill space. Aside from paper recycling, I don't think they made any points about negative or negligible environmental effects of recycling. So it does cost money, but there are some environmental benefits. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Libertarianism is inherently skeptical.

And I love people who bash libertarianism because I get to ask them why they hate freedom so much.

At any rate, this episode, like most of their episodes is spot on. The hate Walmart hysteria is absurd. It is nothing more than elitist bandwagoning at it's finest.

Yeah, there's crap that they do, but they're not alone. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. I do

Is this the first time you've seen BS? I mean, I've only seen 4-5 episodes, and I think it's pretty obvious that the show is NSFW.

I saw this over the weekend. It was the first time I'd seen the show. Is it always just penn preaching about something and presenting it in a way that makes michael moore look like a pulitzer prize-worthy journalist? This was more ridiculous than a daily show segment, and those are SUPPOSED to be comedic parodies.

The latest round of bashing is being done by grocery unions with the help of their underlings in the media. They see Walmart dominating big box grocery stores down the line and their dues goign with them.

The greenfield piece is just classic.

Mostly correct, the only material that makes financial sense to recycle is aluminum (value of aluminum outweighs the cost to recycle them). That's why you see homeless people collecting cans (because somebody will pay them money for them.) Why should we spend a few billion dollars of our tax dollars just so we can feel good about recycling?

And people steal power and phone lines for copper. And people used to steal bronze fire hydrant caps (before they changed the material) around here. There's a story of a railroad that changed all of thier copper lines to fiber, sold the copper, and came out ahead.
