It's upgrade time!

I'm considering upgrading my rig with my birthday money, but I don't know which upgrades to get. I'm considering getting a Palamino 1800+, but I don't know. I only have $200 Canadian, so I can't get too major upgrades. Here are my current system specs:

AMD Duron 1000 mHz
MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition KT133A
512 MB PC133 SDRAM
Western Digital 40 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
MSI GeForce3 Ti200 128MB DDR (Birthday Gift Already: Not Upgrading This)
SoundBlaster Audigy Sound Card
Creative 12x10x32 CD-RW

I'm either gonna upgrade hte CPU, get a more respectable Hard Drive or get some more RAM. Any suggestions?

Yeah....I have 1GB of PC133 stuff....upgrading is so difficult nowadays and when I do that RAM will go to waste I can see it. But fun nonetheless!

Don't get more RAM you'll eventually want to move to DDR, I say CPU Athlon XP.

...While we're on topic, anyone know what speeds of CPU an MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition will support?

Be reasonable here guys... The system he is running is pretty good with the exception of that harddrive. I'd say get 2 60GB Harddrives then when you have the cash get a RAID motherboard. Access speeds are incredible with 3 drives in RAID 0!

Not to mislead anyone from the above statement... If you want to run RAID 0 you need 3 IDENTICLE drives (For best performance/reliability)

Uhh back when I did the raid thing...(thought it was overrated) Raid 0 used 2 drives.. Is using 3 something new?

hmm.. that CPU sounds nice...go for the 1700 and may-b a secondary drive if u can shuffle up some more loot $$$

3rd one is probably for backup in case 1 of the 2 on Raid 0 go bad.

the more hard drives in a raid array the faster it is

2 HD in an array + another for backup raid 0+1 is slower than 1 hard drive by itself

I'm actually considering now getting a DVD-ROM drive and possibly something small like a new 40 GB 7200 RPM HD. The CPU I have just was upgraded recently, so I don't see much point upgrading it again.

Wow, I thought $200 CDN was like $80 US. Am I just way off?
