Apple doesn't even think it's weird that it requires a media player to manage a phone. There should be separate applications for media management and basic phone management (updates, contacts, calendars, full backups, etc).It is a change. It used to be a one or the other thing. Now it appears that if you were to connect your phone, you could do a full backup without having to jump through hoops.
The easier they can make syncing the better. The next change they need to do is let my device sync content from anything with my name on it, any way I choose.
Maybe I want to wirelessly sync this week, but plug in next week. Maybe I am out and about and want to add a song from iTunes Match. Maybe I am on the road and want to use my laptop to sync. Let me do these things Apple. I don't know if you have some sort of weird interpretation of a licensing agreement from 10 years ago or something, but let me do it.
