iTunes checks the DVD drive before starting

I recently bought a used Intel 320 series 160gb SSD. After I reinstalled Windows etc., whenever I click the iTunes icon to start it, the program or Windows 7 checks the DVD drive on my G73sw and the little optical disc icon is seen on the cursor. It takes about 20 seconds to start iTunes after that. I can immediately close iTunes and it will pop right up like it did using my old SSD. I have the most current version of iTunes, but when I downloaded it, for whatever reason it wasn't the most up to date version... perhaps I clicked a bad link. Anyway, not sure what the deal is.

For the record, I have an old iPhone 3GS and I've had iTunes for many years. Yes it sucks, but I need it...

Any thoughts?

does it take as long when there is no dvd in the drive?

That's the thing, there's no CD/DVD in the drive. But it checks for one every time and it takes roughly 20 seconds for iTunes to start, whereas with my old SSD, it was almost instant.

iTunes is malware. It is doing what malware does. What you can try is to remove iTunes, and remove the drive from the system by turning it off in the bios, or just unplugging it. Then install itunes after verifying that the drive is indeed gone. Let itunes update and sync and send all your data to Steve Jobs's coffin. After that is all done try reistalling the dvd drive and see if itunes still tries to read it.

Next time let's do this without the sarcasm please

I wouldn't call iTunes malware, but it has become bloated over the years. I am moving to Double Twist, which I like and can use with my Android phone. It does lack streaming radio, a feature I hope they add soon.

Care to elaborate? I disabled the dvddrive and it loads fine. iTunes has never given me this issue prior to this SSD. My old WD siliconedge SSD always loaded it fine...

try deleting the upper filters, reboot and then see if the issue is still there

Ok, I'll try that when I get home tongiht. I'm wondering if I just had a bad install, as this is a first for me... iTunes may not be the best program, but I literally just reinstalled windows on my older WD siliconedge blue 128gb SSD about a week ago before I bought this Intel 320 160gb SSD.. there was never any kind of issue with iTunes, aside from it being made by Apple ;-).

Odd thing when I was installing Windows on the Intel drive; when I went into the BIOS to make it boot from the DVD, the drive didn't appear in BIOS (the SSD). But I decided to boot with the Win disk and was able to install Win 7. When it finished and it was time to remove the disk and boot to the SSD, it still wasn't in the BIOS. I had to remove the secondary HDD I had and pull the SSD out and put it back in. At this point I was able to complete the install with no issues. I put the other HDD back in and it worked fine. I've never had this happen to me before, I'm wondering if I have a badn install?

I had this problem and believe I've found a solution.

I tried reinstalling iTunes and a number of other tactics. I uninstalled Daemon Tools Lite and that seemed to fix it for a while, but then the problem came back. Finally I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology and I haven't had the problem now for at least a week.

Hope this helps anyone who comes to this old thread with the same problem.
