iTunes on my school's network?

I am connected through a router to my school's network. I can't browse the music of other people at my school through iTunes. I have enabled port forwarding through port 3689 to my machine, but still I can't see their music. Is there something else I need to do? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with how itunes works though.

Works fine w/o the router. That's the problem... I need to use the router though.

Try enabling a software firewall on your PC and placing it in DMZ.

What functions are you trying to accomplish?

what I'm getting at here is I'm not familiar at all with how itunes works, but if you can describe what the application is trying to do I may be able to do some quick research on it.

You're trying to locate other "servers" on the network and there are many mechanisms to accomplish this. My guess is there is some layer 7 negotiation that is going on that your NAT rouer is breaking, but need more info to confirm.

spidey07: that's what I'm thinking. After some extensive Googling, I came up with nothing. Basically, I'm just trying to allow the music sharing functionality of iTunes to work. Here's the setup:

University LAN with multiple iTunes shares. Inside our room, we have a router. When connected directly to the jack in the wall, the shares are available, however, when going through the router, they are not. I have tried forwarding the specified ports to no avail as well as placing the computer in the DMZ and it is still unable to see the shares, which is puzzling to say the least.

Any other suggestions?
