Obviously Trump sources are not reliable (e.g. nothing deleted, nothing classified) and no one else has had access to the emails, so that needs to be done before any reasonable conclusion can be made. Right now this is mostly front page stuff for sheer irony. I do think most likely it will end up in similar waters to Hillary. Given her position and interests, I find it unlikely the government business she was conducting through private email without following policy to report was itself any kind of material national security matter. And I think there is almost no chance that some classified info is not found in the emails, but probably not much of actual consequence. So that leaves us in something of a gray area. Illegal by the letter of the law if there is gross negligence. Of course, those are my projections. First step is investigation, and I will be highly upset if that is somehow impeded.

I think you and I are in near complete agreement. I find it very likely that she broke some laws, but that it is mostly minor, but feel that it should be investigated to find out for sure. If it turns out that some serious classified material was mishandled then that needs to be addressed. Mattering on the issue that might include removal of her security clearance or even felony charges, but I think it is most likely she will just be given a formal reprimand and told to use a government email. It is, after all, how any other federal employee would be treated.

What I think we differ in is how likely it is for this to be properly investigated in the first place. I don't think it is likely at all. The FBI is certainly not going to touch this, Trump would never allow that. The House might investigate it, but honestly they have bigger fish to fry and probably will not get around to it.

Or would that still be considered "using your private e-mail"? I work for a university and handle no classified or even HIPPA sensitive data. I have a laptop with a secure VPN that I can use to log into my secured University account. Would seem trivial for any government official to do this.
