I might sell my 3930k and buy the 4820k. I know the 4820k is a quad core but it's 3.7GHz and the 3930k is 3.2GHz. I'm mostly a gamer and I feel that 4 cores at 3.7GHz would be better for me than 6 cores at 3.2GHz, plus the little higher IPC of the IB-E. Also I think I would benefit more from a 4820k than a 4930k, as for my purposes I think that 4 cores at 3.7GHz would be better than 6 cores at 3.4GHz.

Going from a 4770k to a 3930k was a breath of fresh air for me... Haswell is a very frustrating platform for overclocking and keeping temps down.
How is the 3930k treating you?

personally, i'd keep the 3930k and wait for more reviews before I made a decision like that.

You buy K series CPU's but you don't overclock?

You can overclock your 3930K to 3.7 GHz in about 2.5 seconds. You probably don't have to change anything except the multiplier.

Well for the cost of a 3930K you can buy two 4770K's and you get two chances to delid without mesing up One is bound to be at least a semi-decent overclocker...

What about if you get the 3930k for the cost of a 4770k?

I don't plan on running more than one GPU, so the improvements with the Z87 chipset would be more important for me than more PCI-E lanes. Combine that with the IPC improvements of Haswell and the choice would be pretty easy.

Since I play quite a bit of FSX, single-threaded performance is important. When several CPUs were compared at 4.0 GHz, it was found that Haswell had a 17% advantage over IB-E

This means it would take a 5 GHz SB-E to match even a 4.3 GHz Haswell in this particular application.

you need to look at that again as the Haswell i7 is 11% faster than the Ivy i7.

Within a given cooling method, an OCed Haswell is the single-threaded king, there can be little dispute.

I'm looking forward to the Xeon version (which will probably be called the E5-1650 v2). In my opinion, if you're going to buy an expensive workstation CPU and board, you might as well get one that supports ECC RAM.

I thought you sold your 3930k or did you get another one? The one I bought from Gilbot is really an impressive chip. At stock the 3930k is powerful. I'm trying to decide if I want to OC it and to what degree. See rig 2 below for the specs.

He went back to a 4770k as far as I know. He couldn't handle a 3930k....
