I got thrown off my game. I'm sorry for being a dick lately.

You see...I am a single dad. Lil rudeguy is 16 and I've had him full time since he was 1. I've always made sure he is taken care of, never asked for a handout. His mom is a deadbeat who doesn't work. The only thing I have ever asked her to do is pick him up from school so I could work. For 10 years that worked. Last year I started paying her to do it because it wasn't worth fighting with her about gas money.

Fast forward to this year. The first day of school I drop him off in the morning. I get a call at 3 pm from lil rudeguy. His mom didn't show. I left work and picked him up. That night his mom told him that she had to babysit, so she wasn't going to be able to pick him up from school. Well shit. So the next day I left work early again to get him from school. But I can't lose my job, so we transferred him to online schooling.

So for the past 2 weeks I've had to run around getting all the paperwork and dumb stuff for school taken care of even though I had no idea what I was doing.

Of course his insulin pump picked this time to act up. Well fuck me. I'm a contractor right now, so no insurance. I don't get much of a choice, so I started the paperwork to get him a new pump. But the first thing the pump companies want is insurance info. Apparently paying cash is something they aren't used to. I'm still fighting that battle.

So yea...I've been a bit stressed. Sorry for taking it out on you guys.

This thread has turned so rudeguy gave permission to lock.

Dude, sounds like you have your hands full at the moment. Best of luck in getting things squared away so you can get back to a routine.

I just kind of always expect you to be a rude guy, so I never thought about it.

we're probably the best ones to lash out on

Where else is that frustration going to go? A client? Your kid? Makes more sense here

Thanks man.

The hardest part is biting my tongue about his mom. But he's old enough now to see what's going on. I felt so bad for him. She just blew him off. Left him to stand and wait outside of his school. No call...no text. Just left him standing there.

lil 16 year old ehh?

No school bus? No public bus?

Can't catch a ride with friend or friend's parents?

If that's the case, tell his ass to wait till you get out of work....putting food on the table is more important than going home IMO. He can hang out for an hour or 2....

His school is 20 miles away.

I did school of choice when he was in...1st grade I think? Anyways a long time ago. They changed his district around a few years ago and he got to go to the shiny new school. Thing is they built it in the middle of nowhere.

So no..he can't walk. And his friends don't live near us at all.

You mean there isn't a solution so obvious that any internet yahoo can find it in under ten seconds?

You're fucked.

Have you tried calling the school to ask for suggestions? Maybe there's a bus route that gets him close enough, or after school programs?

I know the ex is a deadbeat psycho and all that, but it sounds odd to me that her excuse is that she needs to babysit, when she would otherwise be looking after her own kid?

:hmm:

Is it not possible to transfer to closer school? There must be some school obligated by law to pick him up or provide free public transit, yes? In NY a public education is not only a right, it's mandatory. Here in NY they must provide free transportation, either school bus or free passes on public transit. I guess your out in the sticks somewhere? Interesting. Never heard of online high school before, but it does make sense for people living in extreme rural areas.

I'm pretty sure it was a BS excuse.

If she was worried about making money, she'd babysit for her own kid as well since rudeguy is paying deadbeat mom to pick up her own kid.

Yep, there should be after school activities he can do or even sports?

Around here it's schools responsibility to pick up/drop off kids outside of 2 mile radius.

Is there any way to document this stuff and have the ex thrown in jail somehow? With no job, I'm assuming she's months behind on her child support.

Sure I could transfer him to the local school. But he wanted to try online and then go to the tech center part time. I respected that. I'm giving this one semester and then we can look at it again. Plus by then he will have his license and a car, so things will be easier.
