I'm sorry but you are doing it wrong. If she is not contributing her share or even willing to give a LITTLE effort with her child, I'm sorry but take her as to court and get government involved.

Also she is collecting welfare?

You are NUTS for not reporting her/collecting child support. Screw that.

I would start pressing charges pronto!!!

Also, I would move as far away as possible from this dead beat so that she doesn't effect your kids life/mind/future.

I know its not the normal way of doing things, but I really don't think the government has any place in my private life. Hell..strangers on this forum have more of a right to that than the government does. I pay those assholes to leave me alone. At least that's the way I think of it.

His mom is doing a fine job of staying away. She hasn't come to visit him or spent any time with him since last school year. And that was just picking him up from school and dropping him off at my house.

yes he has type 1. He was diagnosed when he was 4, started on the insulin pump a little over a year later. He is doing great as far as that goes.

And please don't think that I'm saying I can't afford his pump. That's not it at all. Its just another straw on the camel's back. I hate paperwork. I hate red tape. In my mind they send me a bill, I pay it, they send me a pump and all is good. But its not that easy. I don't know why. Its not like someone is going to ask to pay $4-6k for something they don't need.

But I guess that's big government for you. I can't have what my son needs without 15 pounds of paperwork.

ahh if money isn't an issue, then yeah pumps the way to go The paperwork is a complete bitch with insurance. Took me almost 6 weeks to get my pump and almost 4 weeks to get my CGM. Agreed that you'd think cash should be in and out.

Change your thinking.

Government already has more info on your private life than you think.

Regardless, going after YOUR money has VERY little to do with government having any place in your private life.

Swallow your pride, go after her and get what YOU deserve!

Also remember, her welfare money is YOUR tax money as well!!!

So you have to pick him up from school because you won't drive him to get his DL?

what?

No one said anything close to that.
Maybe I misunderstood you. Didn't you say he needs to walk the 6 miles to get his DL? Oh I see, you meant he needs to walk to get the pussy. Hopefully you can understand my confusion.

Children should never be without insurance if at all possible. I believe most states have programs to insure children for little or no cost. You should look into it.

If you find it's not very simple to figure out, the Obamacare health insurance exchanges should be going live in less than a week. It doesn't look like Michigan opted out or anything. Then you can call someone there to help you figure it out.

Dead beat parents suck. My gf's 9 year old has a dad like that. In debt, garnished wages, no license due to DUI, doesn't pay child support. He isn't old enough to understand everything so it can be easier when he is around, and harder when he's not.

I wasn't complaining about not having insurance. I was complaining that the medical companies don't seem to know how to do anything without it. Its even a struggle when I go to pick up his insulin. "We don't have any insurance on file so we didn't process the order." Dumbass we go through this once a month. I am paying out of pocket. "O OK. Give us about 45 minutes." Go back and of course the first thing out of the cashier's mouth is "We don't seem to have insurance on file..."

And that's only going to get more prevalent (worse, from your perspective) with Obamacare.

I'm not complaining about you not having insurance either. I don't have insurance myself. I'm just saying that you should look into insurance for lilRudeGuy. It might not be that expensive, and it might simplify a lot. Here's the program I was thinking of:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Children's_Health_Insurance_Program

Though you might make too much money for it - I'm not sure.

Edit: Here's more about ObamaCare and children:
Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Obamacare requires all eligible individuals, including children, to have health insurance. Failure to be insured can trigger a penalty fee of $95 per adult and $47.50 per child in 2014. If you have individual coverage but your dependent children aren't insured, you can still face penalties on them.

...

In 2014, the fee is $95 per adult or 1 percent of household income. [Whichever is more.]

In 2015, the fee is $325 per adult or 2 percent of household income.

In 2016, the fee is $695 per adult or 2.5 percent of household income.

The penalties for children are half that for adults.

His state should have a healthcare plan that might cover him (depends on state). But look into it/apply....

again..it goes into me not wanting the government involved in my life if at all possible. I'll decide what pump he uses, what monitor he uses, what doctor he goes to. I don't need an insurance company doing that and I for sure don't need the government doing it.

You are neglecting yourself (and your son) with your ego.

It doesn't make any sense. Government is ripping out as much money as possible FROM YOU (you pay taxes), use the damn services that are available to YOU that YOU PAID FOR for god's sakes.

Look, I'm VERY Anti Government as well but I will not deny my children healthcare or services that our Government provides/I pay for.

Get the most OUT of it (when/if you can).

I don't even see it as morally wrong.

Swallow your pride on Government issue and your wife issues. Go after BOTH and get whatever you can.

He has never gone without a service. Never will.

If I need help, I will ask for it. At the moment, I don't need help.

I got thrown off my game. I'm sorry for being a dick lately.

You see...I am a single dad. Lil rudeguy is 16 and I've had him full time since he was 1. I've always made sure he is taken care of, never asked for a handout. His mom is a deadbeat who doesn't work. The only thing I have ever asked her to do is pick him up from school so I could work. For 10 years that worked. Last year I started paying her to do it because it wasn't worth fighting with her about gas money.

Fast forward to this year. The first day of school I drop him off in the morning. I get a call at 3 pm from lil rudeguy. His mom didn't show. I left work and picked him up. That night his mom told him that she had to babysit, so she wasn't going to be able to pick him up from school. Well shit. So the next day I left work early again to get him from school. But I can't lose my job, so we transferred him to online schooling.

So for the past 2 weeks I've had to run around getting all the paperwork and dumb stuff for school taken care of even though I had no idea what I was doing.

Of course his insulin pump picked this time to act up. Well fuck me. I'm a contractor right now, so no insurance. I don't get much of a choice, so I started the paperwork to get him a new pump. But the first thing the pump companies want is insurance info. Apparently paying cash is something they aren't used to. I'm still fighting that battle.

So yea...I've been a bit stressed. Sorry for taking it out on you guys.

Damn dude that's a sucky situation; no worries about being a jerk, with a name like rudeguy I don't think people were expecting you to act polite.
