I tried one yesterday (as I didn't go to work) and wasn't impressed. Sorry, but $5 for a 6" with no sauerkraut is not a good deal. As with all other fast food, not worth the price.
I got a footlong for you to eat. Ooooohhhhhhhhh!
OP, you live in NYC and choose to go to subway for a pastrami and not a local family owned deli? so much fail...
this! OP, do you also choose Pizza Hut or Dominos over real NYC pizza?

edit - read your post about the long lines, ok that makes sense but aren't there great delis all over?

a lot of the delis are going away. turns out there isn't that much demand for a $20 sandwich full of processed meat anymore.

(of course, this has been happening for 30 years)
Probably gets his bagels from Dunkin Donuts too.
that's because the pastrami at Katz is delicious but the sandwich fucking sucks.
I can't even get pastrami anymore. Yeah, the supermarkets have "pastrami", but it's flavored beef round.
This is pastrami.
Those sandwiches have always looked nauseating to me. I love a good pastrami sandwich, but two tiny pieces of bread with a mountain of salty meat crammed in-between does not a good sandwich make, no matter how tasty that meat is.

that's why this is the best goddamn mother fucking pastrami sandwich ever.
Oh fuck no! But, I work on Varick street and there are NO places that even remotely have pastrami.
I get my bagels at Esse Bagel. I get my bialys at kossars as I live a couple of blocks from there.
Im just sayin that there are only a handful of places in NYC that has decent pastrami and I work near a Subways and I dig their pastrami. Its definatley not the best ive ever had but I live near Katz and the lines are retardedly long. And they are super expensive.

I haven't been to a NYC bagel place, but I grew up in philly and they are/were just about the same. Quality bagels pretty much died though when the bagel makers union was killed. Fortunately I've figured out how to make very good lye bagels, not extruded steamed bread product.
