Was ~180 lbs prior to checking
Was ~170 lbs last week @ doc office
Am ~160 lbs today (home scale)

I have been having some High BP issue lately. The doc said I need to exercise more regularly which I have been trying to do (2-3 miles on the treadmill at 2.5mph every other day). My food intake has reduced a lot (due to nausea and non-hunger) and changed as well (less oily food). Should I be worried?

try doing some weightlifting (good place to start would be Starting strength book, or stronglift). Weightlifting increases your metabolism which would make you eat more and gain your weight back.

I don't know the time scale between the first two weight figures, but 170 to 160 in a week is a lot. If we're talking 20 lbs in 2 weeks that's kinda worrying. If you lost the first 10 lbs over a long period of time and then abruptly changed your diet (reduced carbs/sodium, etc.) after the doctor's visit the you might be able to account for the rapid loss of the second 10 lbs as lost water weight.

Are you male or female? Also, what are you looking to do? Do you want to lose this weight or are you trying to keep it? Do you want to gain muscle mass, look better, anything like that? Is losing this weight a good or bad thing?

Measure yourself every morning using the same scale. I'm not sure how you know you were 180lbs "prior to checking". How do you know how much you weighed if you didn't check?

So if i ignore that, all we know is that you weighed 170 at the doc's and 160 on your home scale a week later. That difference could entirely be explained by a combination of body fluid, stomach and intestinal contents, and also a difference in accuracy between the doctor's scale and your home one. Also what you were wearing when you weighed yourself could be a factor.

You should measure yourself every morning for a period of two weeks using your home scale. Wear the same thing every time you measure (i always wear boxers and a t-shirt, and make sure I'm not wearing shoes when i weigh myself). If you continue to see a trend of your weight going down that fast I would think there is a problem and you should immediately see a doctor.

What is causing the nausea, are you on some kind of medication? If you are taking anything that is making you not hungry then you might want to look at that and try to track calories and make sure you are getting enough (see Fat loss sticky). If you started exercising after your doctor visit, you should be hungrier than usual due to the increased activity.

Male. Lower my BP. 150-160 lbs would be ideal for me. I just didn't want the weight loss to be due to something else. Ideally, get more muscle tone and definition.

I weighed myself in February-March and was 180 lbs. I started getting nauseous and went to the doctor where I weighed 170 lbs. Doc said my BP was high (knew that going in due to home device) and said I should exercise more frequently and regularly. My cholesterol was a tad outside of the normal range. I didn't even get any prescription med for the high BP.

What's causing your nausea? Are you able to keep food down?

Not eating while undergoing a change in lifestyle, even one as simple/low impact as walking every other day could cause a shift in how your body deals with calories. Let's deal with your stomach and lack of interest in food.

So, were you actually trying to lose weight?

Well, I get nausea, light-headed, dizziness at random times. This was going on for a week before I went to the doctor. At times, I'd get really agitated really easily for no reason, e.g., felt the t.v. was on too loud and abruptly turned it off.

As for food, I just don't feel hungry. Even after a mile walk. But I make myself eat twice a day but I'll only eat one serving. I cut out soda entirely. Sodium has been reduced drastically.

Ok. Along with the nausea and stuff, this isn't exactly a good thing. What's the nausea from? Also, what's with the agitation and other stuff? You may have another sickness or some form of imbalance in your body (whether it be electrolytic or hormonal or something else). Does your doctor know you've been having these symptoms? You gotta be careful before you start to lose too much weight.

Yeah I told him all this. He just scribbled it down on file and that was it. Reminded me of the whole Seinfeld episode.

Nope.

It'll help with the nausea and hunger. Just throwing it out there.
