Funnily enough, the laptop is only 15 days old and has developed a bunch of bleeding pixels. There is a line of dead pixels on the bottom of the screen also.

Best Buy refuses to replace the laptop since it is over the 14 days return policy, and Acer refuses to fix it because it was bought at Best Buy.

The Geek Squadder I saw claimed that it was abuse. I was like, how the fuck is it abuse, do you see any physical damage to the laptop? He said there is no way a laptop can just develop these pixel problems unless it took a hit or something.

I wanted to beat the living fuck out of this kid, seriously the fucking smug look on his face made me want to plant a fucking bat to his head.

Unfortunately, my nephew paid for the laptop cash, and there is nothing else I can think of. Acer refuses to fix it under warranty...it is not their problem.

Anyone have any experience with Acer warranty support with Bestbuy? The laptop is BRAND NEW, and this is pissing me the hell off.

6-7 years ago i had a HP digital camera after a year it would only work when it wanted to. I bought it at best buy with the extended warranty. well they shipped it off to the repair center and a few weeks later they called and said it was ready for pickup. i go down and its not fixed. the moron at the repair center said there was impact damage and they wont fix it. :| the impact damage was a 2mm shallow scratch on the side of the camera. WTF. after much bitching, phone calls and letters written it never got fixed. I will never ever buy anything from bestbuy again and so far i havent.
If your extended warranty didn't cover "Physical Damage" I don't blame BB for what they did as long as that was explained to you. If you bought a warranty with physical damage coverage, then thats a different ballgame.

The geeks squad dude is not wrong. Dead pixels due to mfg defect would be present the first time it was booted, not 2 weeks later.

How can you be so sure that your nephew did not drop the laptop down the stairs or something? Were you watching him with it every minute?

pretty sure that it would be blatantly obvious if it was abuse. Its not too difficult to tell the difference between abuse and faulty hardware.

The idiot at the customer service desk is highly unlikely to notice and even if he did he won't give a crap as he'll probably be some brain dead zombie like most Best Buy employees I have had the displeasure of having encountered. If they screw you, screw them right back.

Keep going up. Tell them to wake the president of the company up if they have to. Make a lot of noise, but be polite. Don't leave until you get a firm commitment that something will be done and you get it in writing.

Umm and get arrested for trespassing when they force you to leave and you don't?

This sounds like a good story for consumerist.com if I've ever heard one. Those guys seem to hate BestBuy even more than you do!

Try your local TV station if they have a "Problem Solvers" segment as well.

If you really want to get serious, talk to the Attorney General for your state.

Thats just plain silly, shit if some person came into a store making a fuss over an item he did NOT buy I would tell him to get lost, he is out of the picture, the store owes him NOTHING he was NOT the buyer.

Now lets say if the boy was 13 and this was his dad that would be a different story.

Here recommended the laptop, the laptop is not the issue, its a customer care type issue at this point, and for this guy to be getting all angry with the poor dude at that store who is doing his job is just lame, that system has been in the hands for the kid of 15 days, who knows what he has done to it and how he has treated it.

I was there when we bought the laptop, I have the receipts and it was paid in cash.

The SCREEN was not hit, there is a line of dead pixels now on the bottom. and it's getting progressively worse. I just got home from work now, but I plan to call Acer again.

My nephew is super responsible, and has the original plastic still on the laptop cover. There is absolutely no sign of misuse and it looks brand new (at least when it is off.)

We just got a bum laptop, and it sucks that Acer would not warranty it for me.

If my nephew abused it, I would have been the first to say "you are screwed" and I probably would have laughed at him, but it isn't so. The fucking laptop is getting worse as time passes by on it's own.

I bought an open box Acer laptop at Compusa for really cheap (50% of retail) and when I got it home it had a small spot about the size of a penzil that was a lighter shade than the rest of the screen. It didn't really bother me, but after a few months I decided to call Acer and see what they would do about it. They replaced the entire screen, and I had it back with a week. Excellent service if you ask me. I would just take it to another Best Buy, or it that fails, threaten Acer with a lawsuit if it is not repaired immediately......
