Yes, it's a bragging thread (kinda) though I know there are people with faster connections here. I've been waiting years for FiOS to come to my area, and now that it's finally installed, I don't know what to do with the speed. I used to pirate like 5 years ago, would have loved to have maxed out the connection then.

More than fast enough now with upload speed to host my own private music/video server, though, for personal use... have a domain (dark0.com) that I want to set up with a combo HTPC/home server, thinking about picking up an Intel NUC for that purpose.

Any good solutions for video streaming? Something with a good web interface. I plan on using Streeme for my music, though. Going to start ripping CDs later today.

Note to self: Must watch Spaceballs for the hundredth time

It's about 3 times faster than my home Internet (I have 30mbps). However, I'm not as impressed as I would have been before I measured almost 60mbps on a wireless LTE connection:

(58.72Mbps)
Seriously. If mobile wireless can do 60Mbps, our home connections should be gigabit.

Try watching videos on youtube. I bet you still have to wait for them to buffer.

Meh. I'd worry about my internet speed if any servers on the interwebnetseriesoftubes could keep up.

Yes I'm looking at you the youstubes:

Not sure if it still works this way. It used to buffer some resolution that was lower than standard-def if you weren't in full-screen mode. When you went to full-screen, it would switch to 480p standard-def (whenever that resolution was available). If you set your default quality to 480p minimum, you don't have that problem when you go to full-screen.

It might try to switch to 720p now. If so, you can just set 720p or "maximum available" as the default resolution.

And then you hit your cap by the 3rd speedtest and AT&T wanted $20 for another gigabyte of data... D:

Fear my intarweb:

Why? Because despite having about 10 ISP's within a 5 mile radius, this is the only fucking option I can get at my house.

Bro, I'm jelly. Wish I could get faster internet here. If anything I'd be happy with 10/10. 10mbps upload would be enough to host all my stuff at home instead of paying over 100 bucks a month for a leased server.

Haha looks like their setup is kinda crappy if they depend on the CPE to do the traffic limiting. A proper ISP would be doing that at their end. But lucky for you.

I've seen lots of DOCSIS 3 modems that didn't work in DOCSIS 2 mode. Some would do it after a firmware update from the manufacturer (which can only be pushed to the modem from the ISP). I've seen Motorola and Zoom brand modems that were affected. Zoom wouldn't provide any updated firmware.

I'm guessing the ISP put you on a 30m package because that package is configured for DOCSIS 3 and the modem wouldn't boot on their DOCSIS 2 packages.

Blistering speed!

It's unlimited data at least. I could have gotten 55mbps through the cable company but it seems pointless with a 250gb data cap and $110/mo plus tax is hard to justify.

My work has a 100mb/s connection.

Good old AT&T. 6mb "super ultra fast" dsl, still the same 6 years later.

Is cable in your area? Surely... just ask charter what they can give you.

Nope. A bit over a year ago Comcrap started buring cable in my subdivision, then mysteriously disappeared after a few weeks. After about 8 months of investigating, I finally got to the bottom of it and they "mistakenly" thought we were in the county which they had a franchise for, but we're actually in a town municipality which they do not.

Several months ago I was asked to get in touch with Comcrap execs again (since I was the only one who seemingly knew how) and try to bring them back to the negotiating table with the town so that they could complete their build out, since AT&T has told our subdivision they have no more capacity for new subscribers and it would be too expensive to bring in another trunk.

I have no idea where things stand at this point, but I plan on finding out next week. Right now, it's AT&T DSL or nothing.
