Ok I'm trying to rip my VHS tapes but because macrovsion is a b!tch, my newer ATI AIW cards won't record because they detect this. But here is the thing, I have an older AIW card that WILL let me record these tapes which is nice but there is a draw back.
1. The system the card is in a system that is so slow that it has trouble encoding the video it records into divx files on the fly and 2. The only other way the ATI software for this older AIW card will record is with it's uncompress format which totally sucks because it takes so much space. Well I figured out that 2 hours of VHS video would take about 20GB of space which isn't all the bad because I've got tons of space.
Now it seems like ok I've got everything solved, I have this computer save the files to a large HDD and then have another computer encode it but here is the problem. Because its so large, no computer that I've worked with will likely be able to encode/handle this file so I'm wondering if I were to setup a farm, I could have this problem solved by having these little guys encode the video for me. I've got about 10 computer lying around with nothing to do and I kind of want to put them to work...
