Verbatim is all I get now, they seem to always overburn without any issues even if they're not rated for 16x, I get them from Sams club for pretty cheap.

Does 123 Copy work better than DVD Shrink?

I can't seem to copy the special features disc from a few of my DVD's for some reason with DVD Shrink.

have you thought of using a media center PC, and just ripping your DVD's onto a couple raided HDs?

I would have picked up a few 250 or 320 GB hard drives($100 each) and ripped them with DVD Decrypter...I am in the process of dong now. not 500 DVD however:shocked:

Once ripped you can do anything you want with them...

I like it better. I have used DVD X Copy, DVD shrink, and this. I like it the best.

That is a lot quicker. Is your system pretty fast though? Ive only got a p4 3.0 w/HT, 1gb, and a 5700 ultra.

Your P4 should handle them with no problems...

Try a few rips Mike. IMO you would be better off just ripping and storing them to a few HDs. You could then compress them down to DIVX or XVID for a media center or whatever else you want to do.

It just gives you more flexiblity.

I like this idea alot. Then I can burn them if I need to. I think I will return my blank DVDs and keep my eyes open for some deals on external HDs. Thanks.

Although this might be a route to go, I would have to buy multiple enclosures. I don't want to switch HDs. Still might be cheaper than externals. Ill have to see

Est. 5gb x 500 = 2500gb. Ouch, that would be expensive either way I go. Id have to get 500gb HIT or 400GB WD. Anything smaller would become tacky as therew ould be too many HDs.

Heres what I am now thinking though. Get internals with 1, maybe 2 enclosures. Next year when I buy a house, im going to wire it with cat5. I could have a server going in a closet/computer room and have my HTPC just pull from that.

That is the way to go. My case can hold about 12 HDs. So as I need more room, I just get another HD.

My media PC isn't hard wired, but I do have a wireless connection on it. It has about 500GB of storage itself. So I just upload and transfer file that I want when needed/wanted.

If it's hardwired, can't it be 'streaming' from the server? No upload required?

Yeah...hardwired is the way to go...just stream it from your file server...I just haven't done it yet.
