Isn't going from an Acura to a Mazda a downgrade?
In terms of luxury? Probably. In terms of fun to drive? Nope.

Keep the TSX; the MS3 is a kiddie car
um... no, it's a fun car. The TSX is an accord (albeit, a really nice one.. in fact, it should have been the accord here, looks far better.. well, the first gen did).

In all, I say keep the TSX. You own it outright... just save up for a 2nd fun car. And you'll get better gas mileage.

^^ Listen to this man, he drives about the most wicked FWD out there (modded SRT-4), and what he's saying is right-on.

I have a 2006 TSX and an SRT-4 (for track duty only). Since you own the TSX outright, I would keep it. It's a great handling car with a fun to drive 6 speed. It doesn't have a ton of power, but it makes up for it with the handling and the nice inside.

Now the Neon isn't as nice as the MS3, but if I had the choice I wouldn't trade the TSX for a MS3. I would keep the TSX and buy a cheaper "fast" car.

I've taken the TSX on the road courses as well, and it's plenty capable. It doesn't have much power, so you have to keep as much momentum as you can.

Now the SRT-4... It's tricky, a bit of torque and no limited slip... Late apex all day... damn the 2003s.

I test drove an MS3 when I was car shopping a few months ago. The engine was great, turbo spools quckly (faster than my Legacy GT), and the short gearing in the 6-speed means you can torque it up from a low RPM in a high gear since the boost comes on quick. The handling was nice, very little body roll, but if you have bad roads you might not like the ride quality. If someone gets 21 MPG in their MS3, I'd have to guess that is all city. From what I read, these things should get 25+ on the highway - which is pretty good for 260HP IMO.

MPG can't be much of a concern in any car that is actually fast. If you lay into the throttle of ANY car to enjoy the power too much, your mileage will go down the tube. A turbo car is no worse than a larger displacement non-turbo, it's just that the turbo motor generally uses less fuel when off the boost. But with the quick spooling turbo and short gearing in the MS3, you're in boost really easily.

Now what didn't I like about the MS3, why didn't I buy it? Well cost aside (I was shopping used & trying to stick to a budget), it was too 'boy racer.' The interior had all these red accents to it and the radio (A) was crappy in design+features and (B) had this gay pulsating red light on it. I fit pretty well in it (6' 4" 250lb), although putting it in reverse (R is left of 1st gear in this car) and/or using the parking brake (which is left of the center console, i.e. at my right thigh) was a little close for comfort. Also, what I really didn't like was the lack of interior amenities. No leather, heated seats, etc. I think the higher end model has HID's, but still - I wanted a step up in amenities and that wasn't it.

I ended up with a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT, tastfully modded in the looks, features, and power departments. I'm happy to share my opinions on that car if you're interested in one.

I vote you sell me your TSX for $13k
But all kidding aside, obviously these two cars are pretty different.
And it doesn't make sense to "lose money" considering you own the TSX outright.
You should probably just start saving up cash for the new-gen MS3 that should be out in a few years.
Or pick up a much cheaper used one when that happens.

I say,
Keep the TSX. Really nice car.
If you have to Buy a mazda, Grab a Speed6
Same Engine as the speed 3. AWD 6speed Tranny
Its a Blast.

Another 'icing' on a cake for a young fellow would be the new insurance rates on that turbo charged MS3.

Just out of curiosity, call your agent and tell him/her what you would like to do and ask how much more $$ it will cost you. The reason I am bringing this up is that you mentioned that you planned to get a $4k financing option (less money in the pocket + new rates).

Another vote for keeping your proven/reliable TSX.

Nope, but I drive a regular 3 and I never feel it's lacking power. I hardly ever rev the engine over 3K rpm, and mostly because I have to due to highway gearing too short.

And that's where everyone's sense of power comes into play. Most people don't need close to that kinda power but it sure is fun to have.
