I must be stupid, newegg has already screwed me over four times in the last 7 years or so. Because of their great deals, after stewing for a few months, I always start ordering again.

At least $25,000 in business, I guess I deserve this treatment.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thanks again for shopping at Newegg.com.

We recently received your RMA and your return was then sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. We regret to inform you that this item bears a warranty that is only valid through the end-user of the product; unfortunately your Newegg warranty cannot be honored.

We received back item#14-150-436 missing the UPC code. UPC code has been cut/removed from the retail box. Products missing UPC codes or serial numbers from the box are NOT returnable. Our Vendor will not accept returns that are missing the UPC code. Only the product manufacturer can replace any defective item missing the UPC code.
RMA Denied, Return to customer.

Newegg cannot receive return credit for some of the products we sell because the warranty from the product manufacturer explicitly requires that any returns, repairs etc. be requested and processed directly by the consumer (or "end-user") of the item. If Newegg were to accept the return, we would be unable to send it back to the manufacturer and would therefore be forced to take a loss for the cost of the item.

Because Newegg would be facing a loss if we were to replace this item, we are returning the product to you and recommending that you contact the manufacturer directly to request that they repair or replace the item under your manufacturer's warranty. Please visit the following link to view a listing of all the manufacturers whose products we carry: http://www.newegg.com/app/cont...anufacturer.asp?DEPA=0

If you have any questions or concerns, please direct your inquiries to rmainspect@newegg.com or call 1-800-390-1119 during regular business hours for immediate assistance.

Kindest regards,

I bought the video card, it arrived, I tested it, it worked. Cut off the UPC to get a $20 mail-in rebate. After less than one week the XFX HD 4870 1GB died and when I checked my newegg account for that very item it was eligible for an RMA. They sent me an RMA # and I paid $10 to ship it back.

The item is still available at newegg and it states that it has a Standard Vga Return Policy, which is listed as 30-days for replacement.

WTF!!!!!!! Yes, I'm mad, this isn't the first time newegg pulled crap like this.

For the newegg rep that lurks in these forums, don't even both posting. Just letting other people know how one can expect newegg to stand behind their word.
I will try and return the video card to the manufacturer, I bet they will honor it UPC or not.

I don't want newegg to try and fix it at this point. If I can't get a replacement from XFX then I would rather be out the cost and buy elsewhere permanently.

Yes, I damn mad and I think I have good reason. Just for this issue alone, not to mention past problems!

---

Locked because you crapped on your own thread, and you were so chickenshit that you started another account to flame others with extreme rudeness.

Did you let them know why you removed the upc? Or try and talk to their live chat support?

Not a huge deal, it's still under warranty from Manufacturer. You can't blame them either -- people could buy a ton of the cards, use the UPC's, then return them for profit.

That's not a knock on Newegg imo regardless of your bountiful business, its a knock on you for being a rebate sucker.

Inability to return an item to the retailer without the upc is part of the rebate business model that helps make them attractive to offer to customers.

Solution: Stop doing rebates or only do them when you have ample time to use the product before sending the rebate in.

They're doing exactly what they're supposed to do and they've explained exactly why.
What is the issue? How is the Newegg RMA site supposed to know you cut out your UPC? Why would the manufacturer accept a return from Newegg when it's apparently they will also have to pay out the rebate?

Use your head a bit.

How is this newegg's fault again?

You cant see why they wouldnt want people sending off rebates and then returning products?

This is pretty standard. I have yet to see a business that will take a return on a MIR item that has had its UPC removed.

This falls in the same category as people who try to return stuff at Walmart when they have no receipt and they claim they paid cash for it. Yeah, I'll be sure to give you a cash return when there's no record that you even bought it here

I want it replaced, not a refund. So how does the UPC factor into that?

It seems if newegg can't return a product to the manufacturer with a missing UPC, then why in the hell do they offer rebates on their website at the time of purchase.

Newegg gives no warning on the rebate link this will void their warranty. The rebate itself gives specific instructions to send in the original UPC, again no warning about a possible voided warranty.

This tells me if XFX does give me a replacement that they don't need the UPC, so why does newegg claim they need it? Bullshi_!

For you doubters or newegg as_kissers it's obvious this isn't a rebate scam, I asked for a replacement, not a refund. Besides it was only a $20 rebate, and as always only one rebate allowed per address to prevent any funny business.

Your RMA number is valid for 14 days, and will expire on 11/1/2009 4:45:27 AM.
Please print this page and enclose the top half with the item(s) you are returning.

Please remember to cut out the included RMA Identification Label and firmly tape it to the outside of the shipping box with clear tape. It is important to attach this label to ensure that your RMA is processed in a timely manner.
Failure to tape the RMA Identification Label to the shipping box may result in a processing delay. The RMA ID Label is for Newegg internal use and is not a valid UPS or FedEx Shipping Label.

NEWEGG MUST RECEIVE THE ITEM(S) YOU ARE RETURNING BEFORE A REFUND OR REPLACEMENT IS SENT.

RMA Summary:

RMA Number: 24960767 RMA Type: Replacement Restocking Fee: $0.00 Customer Comment: Video card was working fine, got a message that power adapters were not connected and computer failed to boot. Replaced the cables and then switched out power supplies, still the same problem. I would like to request a replacement.

RMA Item List:
1 x (Defective/Failure) VGA XFX|HD-487A-ZWFC HD4870 1G RT - Retail

I own a business, and would never treat customers this way. Just because there are jerks out there trying to scam, it doesn't make it right for newegg to give a response like this.
Remember, I am not asking for a refund! If they did a 2 second search on my account that should give me some credibility.

The card broke, newegg said it qualified for replacement, newegg sent me an RMA number. I can't see why the won't stand behind their own policies. Newegg won't get another chance from me. I guess other people can take heed and just send it back to the original manufacturer and skip newegg out of the process.

I'm not whining, I'm venting there is a difference. Plus I think it's a good idea that people see how newegg treats their customers.

Maybe I should turn this into a poll. Did newegg drop the ball or was I at fault?

Well, yeah I was at fault, after being treated wrong multiple times before, I was still a sucker for a low price!

Did you call them, or are you just bitching because they followed their policy and you don't like it?

This item is covered by Newegg.com's VGA Standard Return Policy.
Return for refund within: 30 days
Return for replacement within: 30 days

You mean this policy? That's right, the XFX HD 4870 1GB at newegg has this listed under the warranty.

There is no statement saying this video card by this particular manufacturer is not warranted by them, only through the manufacturer and the end user. That was only mentioned in their sorry e-mail.

Like I said, if removing the UPC is their excuse for not standing behind the warranty, they should have a warning for this in the same place they advertise the manufacturer's rebate.

Maybe this is what is known to be "standard policy", but I have never ran into this before. And I know that I have ordered a lot more parts from newegg than the average person.

I stand behind any warranty period that I give at my business. If something breaks within that said period and shows no physical signs of altering/modifying or abuse, I replace it no questions asked. I don't care if they got a rebate or not, a warranty is just that unless stated otherwise.

How long does it take for Newegg to process an RMA?

RMA processing time may vary depending on the product and reason for the return but generally processing time is 2-5 business days once the RMA is received and meet all following criteria:

1. Return with RMA number clearly identified in shipping label or on package.
2. Return with all original equipment, components, manuals, cables, documents, packaging.
3. UPC code along with retail package.
4. No physical damage caused by customer or by carrier.
5. Item is NOT out of warranty when it is received.

Pay attention to the return policy next time.

^^ that.

Sucks to be out the $$ but you should've RMA'd to XFX. I could possibly have made the same mistake, but now I won't. Thanks!
