have a custom-built woofer in my truck. My dad did the whole thing though quite a few years back... including the enclosure. It's possible.

you are going to either want to build a port tuned (vented) sub, or a sealed sub. Both still require a bit of math to figure out enclosure space etc, but there are programs out there (free ones) that will calculate everything for you.

MichaelD, ViperGTS and I (among others) have all built subs before...I think most of us used the Adire Tempest driver too. lots of popular designs out there, you can see white papers on Adire's site.

I would guess that subs are the most common DIY speakers that are made.

If you have the tools you will need, then it is cheaper than buying a sub if you don't consider the time it takes you to build it.

Titanic is actually a woofer made by Parts Express. It's comparable to the Adire Audio Shiva driver.

building your own sub, you mean, buying a standalone sub (adireaudio, reaudio, partsexpress) and putting it in a box you built, ported or sealed, or bandpass, or IB???? or completely from scratch getting the parts manufactured and then assembling it yourself?

You're probably referring to Sonotube, that's how I did mine.

Very fun toy, though I wouldn't recommend it for apartment dwellers. I rarely power mine on now that I'm in an apartment.



I spent a total of $750 or so (including the 850W pro audio amp), you can do it cheaper but if you want good results be prepared to spend the money.

I'm working on a DIY sub using a PE 12" Quatro driver with a DIY plate amp (335W LM3886 parallel/bridged) in a sealed enclosure. Total cost is ~$100 for the driver and ~$50 in parts for the amp plus about $70 in building materials. I'll post some pics when I'm done.

Viper GTS - I recognise that reciever remote in the pics I got in on that deal from ecost on the VR6050 too. Great $99 reciever. Nice lookin sub as well.
