ok, i have a chance for a good deal on the nec 1700v...but i cant find comprehensive reviews anywhere..(believe me ive looked..)
i basically need to know how it handles 'non 5:4' resolutions, so that movies and games can be watched without weird stretching (, for example, how will it handle 1024x768, 800x600...and does it stretch to full screen only, or can i sortof 'letter box' it so ill lose some screen size but at least have my 4:3 ratio preserved...)

also, refresh for games?...im not a hardcore gamer but i do play once in a while...im more concerned about movies than anything else really..
eitherway, i need to know about the pixel refresh on the thing.. i know its rated at 40ms, but ive seen rvewis of screens with 40ms that are good, and reviews of screens rated at 30 or thatarent so good...so i want an opinion from people who actually use it.

also, veiwing angle?..how would it look in a darkened room from like 6-8 feet away? for movies i mean, basically..but with a couple of friends, so angles is kinda important....but i guess if im sitting that far away maybe it wont be that bad since (with a little trig from high school..) if im like 7 feet away, even a little off to the side, the angle wont be even close to the 60 degree angle (or whetever it is)

anyway, im dont blabbing...any info appreciated, i need to decide fast too...

i asume adventure type games arent a big deal, but quake, unreal...those kinds of games...any problems?
i can probably deal with slight ghosting, just wanna konw if its major...

I have the LCD1700NX which is a similar model, I believe the main difference is that my "NX" has DVI input wheras the "V" has D-SUB only.
I am 100% happy with the panel, it is not the 1st TFT I have had (I replaced a 17" TECO/Relisys with this 1 a while back) but it is the best quality for sure.
To be honest I am always happiest running and TFT at its native resolution but watch VCD's on mine with no noticable problems, scaling is only a real problem when text is involved as far as I am concerned.
Any q's feel free to ask.

***UPDATE***

I had to return my 1700NX because a thunderfly (dunno if u call them the same in the USA, tiny midge of about 2-3 mm long) got inside the panel.
NEC were fine about this and sent me a replacement, after 2 days I had the same problem, 2 thunderflies inside the screen, 1 of which died.
After a slight arguement with an NEC minion who thought I had dead pixels (I explained that i had never seen a dead pixel crawling) I sent the 2nd screen back, NEC examined it and agreed that their were "insects" inside and duely refunded me (including CC surcharge), I can only assume that this is a design fault with the NX model.
I have now bought an Iiyama AS4316UTC which is excellent.
