Only 2.5 cuisines seem to do okra right

1) NOLA - gumbo
2) Japanese - yakitori
.5) Indian - various okra dishes

Is pretty good if done right.

Only really have used it in Gumbo, Cajun type of things a few times myself.

Pickled okra is awesome. It'll probably be Talk of Texas brand. If you're lucky you'll get the hot variant(not really hot). *I like it in soups and gumbo, and sometimes fry it with curry powder.

*NOT the pickled okra. I'm talking fresh. Pickled okra you just eat.

Meat, in the mail? How does that work and not go bad? I guess the back of delivery trucks or belly of planes and shipping warehouses arn't heated so I could see that work I guess, still it's an uncontrolled environment though.

You're missing out on enjoying the culinary equivalent of a deep-fried slug. It's got that satisfying mixture of chewy and slimy with a flavor profile best described as "hobo vomit."

Stir fried Okra (Indian dish). Yummy, as long as it isn't overcooked or have too much spice.

I like deep fried okra, but that's about it.

I use file powder in my gumbo instead as a thickening agent.

Having lived there for a time, I know that Irmo, SC has an annual okra festival called the Okra Strut.

I love okra. It's good fried and in gumbo as others have mentioned, but I also like it boiled and slimy over some black eyed peas with hot sauce.

Most fried okra is nasty, but some can be awesome. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm going to go grab some fried okra from a restaurant nearby...

Get ye to a middle eastern grocery (one that sells middle eastern food, not one that is actually in the middle east, that would be retarded) and buy ye some frozen okra. Why there? The okra they sell is soft, delicate, and delectable not large, old, and twiggy.

Yeah, I guess I missed that at first, was thinking fresh myself.

Have never tried pickled personally.
