I've seen my share of crappy dealers, but this one takes the cake. Al Hendrickson Toyota here in South Florida. Its amazing this place has been around so long (we used to swing by there back in the early 90's and even then their prices were high, but not this bad).

#1. Every single car on the lot has a 'Market Value Adjustment' of between $3,000 and $6,000 (Prius). They also add in the Toyoguard and paint protection rip off crap for an additional $999. So every single car on the lot is marked $4000 - $7000 OVER MSRP.

#2. Upon arrival, they have no less than 10 salesmen (a.k.a Vultures) waiting outside for you. In fact, they have even set up lawn chairs for them to sit around and wait and watch you drive in.

We only wanted to swing by to check out the colors of the Prius in person, and we knew the dealer was shady beforehand, so we never even left the car for more than 20 seconds at a time... But my lord, who the heck would ever shop there?

Seriously, write to Toyota of America about this. That is pretty bad.

That sucks. Of course just go out of town to another dealer.

I'm in the process of buying another Toyota (4WD Tacoma). The dealer in the town next to me me is waay different form yours (Jim Barkley Toyota, not rated).

Their prices are below MSRP (several thousands lower than the Toyota dealer in my town). They are posted on the vehicles. The price is what it is, there is no "haggling" etc. They do not try to "up-sell" any BS crap etc.

No salesmem swarm you, in fact it's hard to get to talk to one. The place is busy as all h3ll. People all over buying stuff. I've had to order my truck because as soon as one comes in, it's gone.

I first tried the local place when I bought my last Toyota. I had 4 conversations with salesman and still no quote on the price of the car. After the 4th call I told 'em to "f" off. I found the other place on the 'net and had a quote immediately. Took me about 20 minutes to get a car.

The Toyota dealer in Ft Pierce Florida also does the same with the insane markups over the MSRP. Also extremely pushy salespeople, will not give you a price without giving them a deposit. Needless to say I didn't buy my Rav 4 from them.

What, they wanted you to pay a deposit just to see the price?? That's outrageous!
if you found the price not to your liking did you get your $$ back?.

Like any global company there are going to be some instances where an employer or office will not be up to standards. Tell Toyota and go somewhere else.

These days theres no reason to put up with crappy service from a car dealer ... its easy enough to complete car purchase without even speaking to an idiot cars salesman & it really cuts down on the stress involved.

The Toyota dealer here is pretty slimy too, it's a shame. I walked across the street and got a Honda.

If you are up for a drive, I can get you the name of our salesperson at Koons Toyota in Vinna, VA. She was awesome. We picked up a package #4 Prius for ~ $500 under invoice. We asked her for a quote via email on Wed. and had the car Sat.

EDIT: That was iamwiz82 speaking. Someone didn't log out of their account.

..I see the same thing here in SF/Calif. They all think they're selling unicorns and their all very special one of a kind. Their so used to Toyota snobs just walking in with their wallets open to any sticker price. Dealers know they don't have to haggle. Just wait for a nuicorn buyer to strut in and they'll get any price they ask for.

Wow...all those dealers in Florida were bad. Mine in NW Ohio is great. He basically said "I just show up to work- the quality of these cars sells themselves and we can't keep them in stock." I ordered the one I wanted and it was there in two days. Great experience. He even threw in 3 oil changes and free car washes for life.

over here the Prius is $1000 off sticker. meanwhile the Fit sells for $3K over sticker.

anyway, the only toyota dealers i've been to were all terrible. at one place, the salesman didn't even offer me a test drive of the car i was looking at. needless to say my $20K went elsewhere.

Actually the dealer where I bought my Corolla has a bad reputation in Connecticut (Colonial Toyota) but I had a very good experience with them & paid the price I wanted with no "extra's" tacked on ... of course I don't take any grief from dealers, I told them what I would pay & when they tried to pad the number I just said no thanks & headed for the door ... strangely they figured out how to meet my price before I made it outside.

The Toyota dealership in West Lafayette, Indiana, isn't that great and just like that situation, a lot of the cars are marked very high. I guess if you're serious about buying it, just talk to other dealerships ovver the phone telling exactly what you want and getting a quote, do it with these guys in person or over the phone as well. If you do it in person, bring in faxed copies of the offers from the other stealerships and tell to either beat it without tossing BS at you, or you're leaving.
