I was thinking the same thing. It's been years since I've seen one of those, and I don't miss them at all.

Microcenter and Fry's are the stores i love. Amazon has surpassed Newegg because of its 3 dollar overnight shipping

First pass is all about single thread performance, the IB has higher single thread performance at the same operating frequency than SB. That is why 3570K scores higher in first pass against SB.

Second pass fully utilizes a multithreaded processor, the 4 threads IB 3570K without Hyper-Threading cannot catch the 8 threads of 2600K or BD.

ok so i guess FPS is correct, but the kb/s is nearly identical for everyone... must be a bug... should not even include that figure anyhow, FPS is all we need

The x264 benchmark encodes the same HD video in to a x264 file format.

Bitrate(kb/s) should be identical for every run in order to have an apples to apples comparison.

As you have said, it is the FPS that we care about.

that is a 2600k with hyper off at 5.0ghz and turbo working, its says in the install readme to shut off turbo for better results and i will try that next and then with hyper on at 5.0ghz

Like Cinebench was to the Phenom II x6, x264 is to Bulldozer.

8150 @ 5Ghz

8.64 fps

i5-2500k 5.2GHz

8.08 fps

8150 @ 5Ghz

i5-2500k 5.2Ghz

8150 @ 5GHz

i5-2500k 5.2GHz

8150 @ 5GHz

i5-2500k @ 5.2GHz

All four of those benchmarks use 8 cores, only one of them was faster on the 8150 when compared to the i5-2500k.

Guess which one they'd rather talk about?

2600k@5ghz with hyper on,as expected single thread will suffer a bit from the cores trying to go full load and windows 8 should help with hyper a bit with better spread across the core.

there is zero reason for anyone with a 2600k to upgrade to ivy bridge

Wrong thread? All those pictures make it a little difficult to compare the benchmarks people are sharing without massive scrolling.

Thanks to the folks who took the time to run the bench and post it with the variety of CPUs & clock speeds

Was doing a burn in at stock settings. Now I'm doing 4.5GHz @ 1.304V and lowering the voltages till I find the lowest limit that is possible at 4.5GHz. Tried at 1.35V earlier and passed Prime, LinX and IBT.

My SB runs way cooler than that, and im on a 50$ air cooler.

I wonder if you could still count on your air cooler IF Haswell also shows similar temp issues. You could either keep your SB and your air cooler till the end of time or actually find ways to overcome the heat issue. Plus you haven't considered my 30C+ ambient temps during the day.
