Yeah, ok... need to re-poll... not going to wait another week + shipping to get this thing, just bought a 2550K, all about cool running... really kind of annoyed I think this thing is just a tinkle better than sandy. Really kind of pointless to "wait" for desktops, but should be a great upgrade for ultrabooks and laptops, although ultrabooks are going to have to wait, which is a shame because this new integrated graphics really suites them the best.

Honestly, not going to notice a difference between ivy and sandy, you could set up two systems side by side and you would be hard pressed to find anyone who could actually notice the difference in the CPU I bet, or doing a One-way ANOVA testing the response of the participants you would probably not see a statistically significant response suggesting the two are different.

If your on a budget I guess wait, but I spend 10$ on lunch every day so if I can buy today for $10, I'm going to.

You just wasted 229.99 because you couldn't wait 4 days?

Waste? Where's the waste? Time is money people. Performance-wise what is my perceivable loss? In 4 days I'll have to wait at least 2 more days for shipping, etc, way I see it I just paid the difference in cost for 2 day shipping.

I guess my whole thing is... if whatever comes out next is 100% faster than SB, then it's still 95% faster than IB. New stuff will take a new motherboard and the time left until you need to upgrade again is the same. The new chip certainly isnt worse than the old one, and it's cheaper, so those who are pinching pennies will be grateful. I guess right now I'm well off enough to justify the small price difference as time savings.

If you want to talk about waste... playing video games is a waste of time, and spending thousands to do so is even more wasteful. A fun waste that I'm ok spending a little more to be able to waste my time now! (Though I should maybe be working on my thesis... ehehe...)

Yep. Got one

I just got one as well ^.^ (edit: 3770k)

I am gonna spend the next 3 hours lapping the heck out of it so I'll probably have results posted sometime tonight/tomorrow with a NH-D14 + mirror lap. I'm hoping for 4.8 and expecting no less than 4.6.

ps: If you are from Ontario PM me and I'll tell you how you can get one

I'd highly discourage that. Even if it's lapped, temps should go higher than 85C. Ivy Bridge doesn't seem to be as good with degradation as SB, either, so I'd recommend you don't go any higher than 1.25V on air. That being said, if you want we can make an architecture comparison later tonight since for today I'll be running my 2600K at 4.6GHz. You should try at 4.6GHz too, and if you can't because of temps we can try at 4.5GHz or 4.4GHz. Most of the reviews just compare chips at stock speeds, so it'd be nice to get a perspective for the avg. enthusiast.

Got a 3370k already, eh?
Start posting ASAP!

Please note the batch and origin (Malay vs. Costa Rica) before you lap please!

It was Malaysia. Not sure about numbers on the processor itself, but the box says batch L202B764. I just finished lapping which took about 3 hours. It's going to take me a few hours probably to build the system, setup raid, install windows, and get to overclocking. Just having a cigarette break at the moment cus lapping is a lot of work :s

Btw, is that the same batch that the hong kong chips were or different?

I don't remember seeing any mainstream Intel CPUs that are from Costa Rica. AFAIK, there are only mainstream CPUs from Malaysia and higher end ones like servers and LGA2011 are from Costa Rica. Not quite sure how much of a difference it makes considering that the fact that Costa Rica and Malaysia are only packaging facilities, not fabs.

If the temps aren't that huge of a difference from lapping, would you experiment with delidding that CPU to see if it made any difference in temps afterwards? Either way, you've already voided the warranty.

I guess we could have our little OC clock-for-clock performance comparison tomorrow?

Nope, I'll let people with more money to throw away experiment with that and then maybe do it once its become standard practice.

I've got the cpu/hsf installed, mobo in case, p/s in case, hard drives in case, prolly another 2 hours minimum til I can say anything about o/c, just compare tmrw, I'll post what I can when I finish. I don't rush my pc builds. I spent probably 15 minutes just cleaning the surfaces and heating my thermal paste up before I even put the heatsink on tbh. There are a million reviews of people throwing stock processor into motherboard with no-name paste and unlapped heatsink, so if I rushed it would be counterproductive for people who want information and especially so for me since this will be my main pc for a few years.

This is what I've got so far, 4.5 ghz 1.200 V, ~20C idle, 72/75/76/71 highest after 1h30 of linx with HT. Will go higher soon. The lapping didn't help as much as I hoped with the temperatures though.

At stock the highest core in linx was low to mid 50s. It always seems to idle around 20 c.

I'm just going to make a new thread.
