the author of the article said:From the looks of it, it could be a BIOS issue on the older Z68 and P67 boards as they cant fully support the new processor.
BIOS/UEFI update should take care of it for most boards. If buying new just go for a Z77 anyways.
My board in sig just got a UEFI update on the 19th to support IB's. If I get a IB I'll just buy another MB anyways tho. Might try the update with my 2550k to see if it maybe helps a little with overclocking. Still can't boot into windows at 56x but gonna give it a shot someday
Max multiplier is cpu based not bios based
This is a gigabyte only issue. Read the front page at legitreviews...you need a UEFI BIOS to get past the 39 multiplier. Apparently gigabyte cheaped out their z68 boards and had a hybrid efi solution that will not allow the IB to oc past 39 multiplier.
