From the looks of it, it could be a BIOS issue on the older Z68 and P67 boards as they can’t fully support the new processor.

I'm pretty sure this is the issue. Give it time, the MB makers will fix it with a BIOS update.

I doubt very many people are going to upgrade to Ivy on their P67 board.

It still sucks though and some people might have bought Ivy thinking it would work fine.

So very old boards need a BIOS update to support the very newest of CPU's.

As long as the MB makers provide the BIOS what's the issue?

This is a gigabyte only issue. Read the front page at legitreviews...you need a UEFI BIOS to get past the 39 multiplier. Apparently gigabyte cheaped out their z68 boards and had a hybrid efi solution that will not allow the IB to oc past 39 multiplier.

GLAD I USE ONLY ASUS, and not gigabyte, What now

BIOS/UEFI update should take care of it for most boards. If buying new just go for a Z77 anyways.

My board in sig just got a UEFI update on the 19th to support IB's. If I get a IB I'll just buy another MB anyways tho. Might try the update with my 2550k to see if it maybe helps a little with overclocking. Still can't boot into windows at 56x but gonna give it a shot someday

Max multiplier is cpu based not bios based

I know but I can almost make the jump

UEFI shows max multiplier as 60x so maybe it'll make the jump to 56x at least. Not like it would be 24/7 doable anyways!

Figure the update might tweak other variable on the MB which may help out in overclocking. I guess it could also make overclocking worse....Hmm

I kinda get board with CPU/MB combos after awhile. Waiting to see what Microcenter does with the IB's as far as price and combos. Figure if the price is right I'll just sell my combo on craigslist

Bios issue.
Asus z68 bios' in the 3XXX series are just fine.
Asus P67 will have to wait for bios' in the 3xxx series to go higher than 34-39 on multi despite "k" chip.
I found this out 1 month ago on my Asus P8P67 and had confirmation from Raj at Asus.
