I was thinking on buying the Fry's deal Iwill kk266 and 1.2 for $249. Put 2 pc150 128 meg ram in it with a Elsa geforce2 ultra. Should I get this deal or wait for a good ddr mobo and the new AMD 4?
Right now I have a no name mobo and intel p3 450,128meg ram with Voodoo 3 3000.
I just bought a Elsa geforce2 ultra for $217 shipped.
I mostly play games and most games coming out now want 500.
Well, to make you feel better, I've got a Pentium MMX overclocked to 233, and integrated sound and video. Thats my rpimary computer, too. So just realize: it can always get worse. Personally, I'd wait for the Sis 735 chipset... but you do what you've got to do.
Would a ddr bourd be better like a Epox? I really don't want to upgrade next year. I believe Fry's has a Soyo ddr with a 1.0 for $250. I still need to get a atx case, power supply, hard drive, cd-rw and memmory. I could take some of the stuff from my system put some friends want to buy it.
I think it depends on how much you can afford. If you can afford to buy the palominos and the expensive boards, wait for it. If not, you should have a new computer in a week.
I think I am going to go for it now. I have a C550 that I would like to pass down to a family member. Sure, there is always something better coming along but a 1 -1.2 gHz computer should handle anything I throw at it for quite awhile.
I just wish there was a Frys close to here.

Elsa geforce2 ultra (was 209 shipped, from above)
40 gig IBM deskstar 7200 rpm ata/100
Iomega cd-rw 40-16-10
sound card, I guess I will get a Blaster Live. Do they make a card that I can plug into a dolby home stereo with rca's with seperate right and left to get true surround sound and boom.
Thanks for all who replied. I guess I just need a little push to upgrade.
2 suggestions (assuming you havent ordered yet):
Get the KK266-R. Even if you dont plan on ever using RAID, it does give you 4 IDE channels instead of 2. You could have 4 IDE devices, and let each be the master on its own channel. I am planning on getting onboard RAID whenever I get enough cash to start upgrading. Its only another $15, so I personally think it would be worth it.
My other suggestion is to get 1 256MB stick of Crucial instead of two smaller ones... Also, definitely go for CAS 2!
