Are you crazy? That's 50mph over the speed limit. That's like saying that going 65 through a school zone is no big deal.

In my state, that's more then enough for immediate driver's license revocation of a YEAR.

Keep this in mind:

When it comes to insurance points.....the worst is a DUI.

2nd worst is a Careless and Wreckless (3 points)......

with the speed he was going, he absolutely deserves that sentence. Not only did he risk his own life....but he risked other's lives too.

Those points are based on your state. It varies by state. 6 points here for Wreckless driving.

I find it hilarious that he got to schedule his jail time. If he can schedule it, then why make him do it at all? It just seems really stupid. Now, if they hauled him away for 6 days right after the trial, that would be something else entirely. What does a 6 day sentence accomplish anyway?

Ryan

It's to reflect the seriousness of the violations on the driver, many wealthy people would drop 10 grand on paying fines, lawyers, etc and not bat an eye. Having to go to jail for 3 weekends will discourage them from ever thinking about doing it again. If you get stopped over 100 mph, you'd better realize the tickets are going to be bad. Many states will arrest you and impound the car at that level.

If you don't want to face the consequences of your actions, don't do stupid things.....

I think that letting someone schedule their jail time mitigates the impact of being sent to jail. In my opinion, instead of sitting in jail for three weekends wasting tax payer money, they should be required to spend three weekends on highway cleanup crews, or some other state sponsered community service program.

i have done 100 multiple times in my nissan altima.Sorry but its not as hard to control it as some peole think. I agree if traffic doing 65 u shouldn't be doing 100 or even faster but if traffic doing 80-90 then their is nothing really wrong with pushing it to 100. I am from los angeles so maybe i just got used going supper fast when their is not alot of traffic.

iirc, the Cannon Ball Run was run 5 times, and only had one car taken out via an accident. (there were a few taken out because of mechanical failure) Which given the amount of cars, and the amount of miles, is probably pretty close to the normal accident rate. The REAL Cannon Ball Runs (not the movies) were to prove that a good driver can drive at a high speed safely, and was shortly after the nation wide 55 MPH speed limit was enacted to save on fuel.

150 isn't OMFG YOU'RE GOING TO KILL EVERYONE fast either, but a lot of people here are misinformed(not talking to you). Hey what do you expect from computer geeks? I doubt they have ever felt the other side 100 MPH.

Ok...so My math sucks.

It was late and I just got cross eyed. No wonder i thought I got in the high 700s on my math on the SAT, and I got a 640.

But in my state....here's the regs:

If the speed limit is over 55, and you're caught going more then 15 Mph over, you can get a revocation of your license for 30 days. Iknow this for a fact, b/c when I was 18 I got a ticket in June for going 74/55. The ticket was out of state...a.nd I couldn't go to court, so I just paid the fine. When it got back heere, in Dec of that year, my license was revoked for 30 days. If I had been living in the state my residence was in (I wasn't..I was in college)....I would have gotten the notices that my mom never sent me about being able to go to safe-driving classes in leiu of losing my license.

The revocation for a year is something that's hardly used, but it's in the court's jurisdiction. It applies to several different cases, but they only use it in extreme cases of C&R and Wreckless endangerment.

BTW.....I used to have a Mustang, and I know what 100 feels like ( apparently don't understand that it's 35 over 65 and not 45 over 65) but back in those days, If I would have been pulled.....my only answer would have been to curse real loud and call a lawyer. Whatever I got ticketed for, I knew even in my young stupid days that I deserved it. (I only ever did 100 on a construction highway that wasn't open.....(in fact it was 120 according to my speedometer) (a highway that was turned to 4 lanes from a 2 lane....I was on the closed side. And I admit...that's one of the dumbest things I've ever done.

I'm gonna go back to elementary math if it makes everyone happy.......

btw. 41 over and 50 over are both still a helluva lot in my book.

15 over is pretty much a given these days. Most reckless tickets are for 20-25+ over. Hell I have a regular speeding ticket for 30 over before.

Personally, I'd like to see the ability to get an "advanced" license where they'll give you a special plate if you submit to more rigorous testing (both driver and car) but will let you go faster. Similar to how there's a Class A/B license for truckers and a Class M1/M2 for motorcyclists. However, even I'm not naive enough to think that it wouldn't be both a regulatory and enforcement nightmare.

125-140 is where it gets alittle hairy... sure is fun though... zoom zoom

2 tickets....
94 in a 65.... Cop wrote me down for 76 in a 65
85 in a 65 in virginia... Cop was a dick and apparently any speed over 80 in VA is reckless driving... *3:20am, visibility unlimited, only car on the road*.... man i sure was reckless

You can most def drive 100 mph safely in a proper car
