The humor was much more sarcastic in nature. I liked the new Bond guy but the storyline was a little hard for me to follow

Hard to follow? This plot made more sense then the last three Bond movies combined.

Ups:
Bond is likeable and believable.
pretty good Jokes and one-liners
the Bad Guy is actually quite vunerable (which makes it more realistic)
actually a pretty funny movie.

**************SPOILERS**************
Downs:
the near-end was boring. Love Story FTL
the plot was flawed in too many ways and too many times. (moral of story: if you are a bad guy, don't send SMS)
Bond in a Ford, wtf?

overall: B-. The plotholes killed the movie, but Craig kept the movie alive

The pacing was pretty good despite the running time of the film, I didn't leave feeling it was 30 minutes too long (unlike Superman Returns). There was a lot of card playing, and that part did drag a little to me. Doing battle with terrorists via a card game is a little far fetched to me. I know card playing was central to the original story, but they way they integrated it here also felt to me like they were trying to cash in on the stupid poker craze.

The first big action scene with the free running was superb, and more impressive to me than seeing a car chase for the billionth time. Bond also bled *a lot* in this movie, I appreciated them showing him having some vulnerability.

The last 40 minutes wasn't bad. It probably could have been streamlined. But it's character development, they're trying to establish that Bond has some basis for being incapable of trusting or truly loving anyone. That's the whole thing Bond fans who hated the last 2-3 movies have been asking for, focus on the character James Bond. I don't care about a car that turns into a jet and a boat or how cornily Brosnan could deliver a double entendre about oral sex, I'm not 13 years old.

One thing about Craig as Bond is that he barely smiles. If Connery is the model Bond, then the character is supposed to have some fun during the movie and flash a confident smile. I'm not saying he should be a ham and start laying on the bad puns, but Craig could lighten up a bit in that regard.

I'd put this one above any of the Brosnan movies. I'm not sure yet if I like this better than the Bourne movies, but this was pretty good. The plot made sense and there seemed to be a reasonable purpose for everything that was done. The most overt use of gadgets in the movie was to literally save Bond's life, it served the story. To anybody who had trouble following this movie, all I can say is don't go see The Prestige or your head will explode right there in the theater.

I agree with most of the things you said, especially his vulnerability and the lack of "overt gadget usage." But I believe Bond smiled quite a bit,
*************spoilers************
1) in the Ocean Club, valet scene, when he fukked with the 2 old dudes' Range Rover, he did smile when he was in the security room watching the cameras
2) he smiled when the terrorist blew himself up
3) Eva Green commented about his smile at the hospital (okay, this doesn't count)
4) he LAUGHED when he gots his balls "scratched" (okay, this doesn't count neither)
but you got my point

meanwhile, the plot didn't quite make sense.
************more spoilers**************
1) SMS: if you are capable of engineering a terrorist attack, using SMS (with Caller ID) to transmit action code is the lowest tech move possible.
2) in the musesum back in Florida, where he had a knife fight with Mr. Dimitrius: that was plain stupid. "Hey, look over there [STAB!]"
3) How did that tiny attache'case in the end carry 150 million dollars, when it took 3 Large crate-like suitcase to move 100million in the beginning.

They never show the suitcase open. There are a varity of ways to get $150million.

I didnt think the Brosnan bond movies were that bad?!
Does this mean I see opposite of what the critics see and Im gonna hate this movie?!
I guess we'll see

Brosnan was a great Bond, but the writers lost touch with reality with him. All the movies based the story around him using ridiculous gadgets (the worst of which was the invisible car that he used to hide behind). Gadgets became the star of the show, when if fact it should have been Bond. They got back to that in Casino Royal (no Q at all in fact...so they had no choice).

To be honest, I thought it was a bit disappointing. Daniel Craig made a good James Bond, and the bond girl (Eva Green?) was pretty attractive, but I think the formula was changed too much. All of Bond's gadgets and stealthy ninja moves were gone, and was replaced by WAY too much of him playing cards and getting it on with the Bond girl. Sure, the Aston Martin was back, but you saw it for all of twenty seconds maybe, and Bond wound up wrecking it anyhow . I guess I'm kind of used to the previous Brosnan-Bond movies, but I really don't think that this lived up to the other movies. It was a pretty good movie, but it was more of a love story, and not a spy story.

You twit!!! That's what Bond movies were SUPPOSED to be! They were perverted sometime in the late 80's, and now we have a whole generation of people that don't know what a proper Bond movie is supposed to be like.

Goldeneye was awesome, but after that brosans run just got sh|ttier and sh|ttier. I wouldn't even say it was his fault...he was a good bond, but he was surrounded with garbage. Bad scripts, bad characters, medicore bond babes.

The best scene in the movie was the torturing. Craig pulled that off excellently.

I liked it, but Craig lacked something that Brosnan brought to the movies. I guess Brosnans "charm" or personality came over more.....but the writers kept screwing up the scripts for his movies.

I haven't seen it yet, but if the Ford was not a Ford truck or the Ford GT then that is pretty lame...
No James Bond would drive a crappy Ford vehicle unless it was a Ford truck or Ford GT.

This movie was GARBAGE.

It is a proud day for George Lazenby, as he is no longer star of the WORST BOND FILM EVER.

With 20 Bond films in existance, you'd think it would be horribly clear on how a Bond film is supposed to work out. This movie bastardizes itself in a miserable failure of of a film.

Even if this weren't a Bond movie, the movie would suck. It lacks a plot, spend 40 minutes watching a goddammed Texas Hold'em game and lacks any clear villian.

There were at least 5 points in the movie where I asked myself "WTF just happened?" only to be met with another entire change in what I thought might be the plot.

Suspending my dislike for Craig as Bond, and even giving in to the "Before Bond was 007" bit, this movie still made little sense.

Garbage, garbage, garbage.

I just watched it yesterday and I thought the movie was awesome, especially the opening scene which was absolutely amazing. I mean this movie got back to the basics of hand to hand combat rather than all that over the top, explosions run wild movies that Pierce Brosnan did. Daniel Craig plays a much more sinister Bond that murders quite a few people in this show. It's a welcomed change.

The opening sequence did not have any naked girls, unlike the previous 10+ bond movies. It went w/the gambling theme tho.

There were no gadgets. The one liners were few and far inbetween.

the 1st bad guy chase scene was amazing (for the bad guy).

He first drove a FORD. WTF? and they displayed the Ford badge a few times.

The rest of the movie he drove an aston martin.

The movie was meh, till the plot twist. and that only made it ok. It just didnt seem like James Bond.

I did not understand the last frame WHATSOEVER in which he finds the badguy. Can someone elaborate?

This was the development of the "agent" Bond into the "007" Bond. He's some idiot in the beginning and it shows him develop into the Bond we know.

Player 1 reveals nut flush.
Player 2 reveals full house full of 8s.
Player 3 reveals full house full of Aces.
Player 4 reveals Straight Flush.

WOW. Player 3 would've won the jackpot in vegas =)

I don't know. I noticed it too, but he drove it for about 10 seconds until he won that guys car.

And to that guy saying it should have been a ford truck...WTF? Bond driving around the mondeo is to out of character but it would have been cool if he was driving around in a F350 with a gun rack in the back or something?

LIke some other guy said, this was supposed to be about how Bond became a double-O.
Hence his discovery of his favorite drink, his favorite car, and his favorite type of woman.

And why after this, he goes on to be a cool, aloof spy who will never fall in love with another woman, and who will never trust anybody again.

Granted, they did a modern twist on the story, but timeline discontinuities aside, it is supposed to be how Bond becomes the spy we all know.

I loved the show. Enjoyed myself greatly. I liked Brosnan, but I really thought this new direction was good. Just like I enjoyed the latest Batman, this seems to be a trend where they "return" to the roots of the character and explore some of the vulnerabilities and deeper secrets that were not so obvious in the previous shows.

Because it's blatently obvious that it's just a payoff by ford to put it in there. I mean, the only scenes its in is like a ford commercial.

Not only that, but when you think Bond car, you think "BMW" or "Aston Martin"... Bond is a classy fellow, he needs to drive classy vehicles.
