i was a little disappointed. the villain had too many comical moments for me to take him as being truly evil. i did like the fact that the backstory to bond was developed much more.

it was a good movie, but i don't think it deserves the exceptionally high ratings it has received. casino royale is the best daniel craig bond movie IMO (i was super lost in quantum of solace)

I have to say this is probably the best Bond villain of all time.

The portrayal of the character is great, but what he does plot-wise got me frownier and frownier as it went on.

It was easier to suspend disbelief with previous Bond villains' fantastic technology or farfetched plots, because at least those things were generally necessary for the villains' goals. This guy on the other hand felt like he was just dicking around semi-randomly, and succeeding most of the time with godly luck. His actions made no sense to me. It's not just the showy stuff either, but other incongruence as well. The villain is supposed to be a great agent, and I'd say his henchmen are portrayed as competent, but then their tactics in the final battle are suddenly glaringly terrible and random. That would be easy to ignore with a "secret base in volcano" type villain, but Skyfall tries real hard to be down-to-the-earth and gritty, and then stuff like this sticks out like a sore thumb.

The computer stuff was jarring as hell and doesn't play to the strengths of the Bond character. He needs physical work.

That was kind of the point of the computer work though. Bond is facing a 21st century enemy but he's a relic from the Cold War.

I also think they did a very good job making Craig look older and slower in this movie than in Casino Royale.

That's all well and good, but they could then have portrayed him as more helpless with the computer stuff instead of technobabbling it up and having him finding some mysterious pixels/whatnot from the screen.

I chortled at that...and was thinking the same thing while watching this sequence.

Yeah, it was pretty ridiculous. That whole sequence was absurd, though I did like how it looked when they were running through the moors with the burning building in the background.

agree with that. didn't know it until the opening credits, either. I knew Bardem, Craig, Dench; saw Fiennes, then Deakins, Mendes...holy crap! This can not fail!
:\

Hahaha, yeah! Oh I mean

Opening song... lovely.

Ending didn't do it for me.

God damn that movie looked beautiful though.

I thought this movie was awful and do not understand the critical acclaim. I agree the plot made no sense.. the villain's use of technology is interesting but his goals could have been much better than some revenge plot. Why not instead have him access nuclear codes to start some war? Or something, anything other than what he ends up doing?

The last part of the movie made no sense. In all sorts of ways. Not in a campy way, in a bad movie way.

I think people have lost their minds.. it must be because Javier Bardem is in it and because they tried to Dark Knightify the plot, so it must therefore be a good movie.

I think it's a fair assessment, especially the "Dark Knightify" bit. The recent Bond films are clearly trying to compete directly with the Bourne franchise, and now it seems Nolan's direction of bringing ultra realism into the Batman world. This is the result of producers exercising the shear dumbness that they are capable of: "Hey it works in franchise x and people will eat up; therefore, let's adapt these same techniques and plots on all of our franchises!" derp.

I still like Craig a lot, and I love love love CR, but they really need to abandon this over-arching revenge mechanic. I think--and hope--that this is what we are heading towards, though. These 3 flicks seem to be a loosely-tied trilogy and with some of the characters and stories introduced in Skyfall, it seems that the franchise is heading back to what Bond is supposed to be. Well, hopefully it's more Connery than the ultra cheese that was Moore/Brosnan. If it's Daltonesque Bond plots, that is probably the best imaginable.

I liked it, but one thing really made me face palm:

The laptop they were attempting to crack was for some reason hooked up to the internal network, rather than being isolated. REALLY big stretch for me to believe they would do something that stupid.

This I never understood

He was given the tiny transmitter to summon black helicopter team any time he wanted which he used after that girl was shot to capture the bad guy.

Why in the world he did not use it from his country manor when the bad guy came in his helicopter? Was the battery in that transmitter dead?
