Since he was found not guilty by reason of mental illness at the time of the shootings, I fail to see how the government could possibly prove, more than 30 years after the fact, that he was in fact legally sane at the time of the incident. It would seem to me to be a colossal waste of time to attempt to prosecute him now.

This seems a little far fetched to me.
Not that Hinckley wasn't and still isn't a worthless POS.
But how many people have died as direct result from tobacco companies?
Or suffered with health issues as direct result from eating McDonalds?
If they can charge Hinckley with murder, after all these years, where Brady lived and survived the initial shot, then why not go after the tobacco companies as well?
And go after McDonalds for their part in clogging arteries that caused heart disease and death?

And what about Coca Cola's part in producing highly sugared drinks leading to diabetes and often early death?

Consistency! That's the bottom line.

The real question is, did he have to take Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall with him

I don't like the can of worms this type of reasoning represents if it does go to new charges. On the one hand, yes, I get that his actions were deemed to have directly contributed to the death of another person, but 30 years is a hell of a long time, especially since he was charged at the time of the act.

While narrowly speaking I don't necessarily have a problem with it, this seems like one hell of can of worms if the government can start digging through any act in your past and treat it like the proximate cause of death. It seems like a very short road from that to charging people who did anything that might contribute to a death decades later and in general I am extremely leery of doing anything that broadens a prosecutor's discretion of who they can go after. What's more, even if not used, it gives the police greater power to coerce and intimidate by holding past actions over a person.

That might be one of the most mean spirited political cartoons I've ever seen. I've certainly seen 'nastier' ones but this has a serious meanness of spirit that you don't often see.

This. I don't see how it is that mean spirited. Simply claiming gun advocates are in heaven and that Brady was a heavy supporter of gun control (which he was) and poking fun at the laws he helped enact.

Very interesting. I'll be curious to see how this pans out. This could be monumental for anyone that has assaulted someone in the past. You'll have to always worry if those injuries lead to their early death even 20-30 years in the future.
