Funny thing about Krispy Kreme, they are unbelievable marketers. They get everything in place for the opening of a franchise store so you have lines around the corner. But the interesting thing is once the buz dies down, the stores have a hard time turning a profit. I believe both stores in the Fargo area closed or are up for sale for this reason. A few of the stores in the Minneapolis area are having a hard time of it. There was an article in the paper a couple of years ago about the crazy of Krispy Kreme and looked at the long term business and how once the initial rush is over, the business fails.
Those idiots spread their business way too fast. It was like that around here in DFW and in Austin too, people would hear about Krispy Kreme and there would be long lines everywhere - people would travel pretty far. But then they built store after store and made the donuts available in the supermarkets and even gas stations. They made themselves 'not special' anymore when you could pick up a KK donut anywhere. Now I pass by the stores and the only cars you see are owned by the employees and maybe a customer or two.
