Come to think of it, besides the Germans, who else has really owned up to wartime atrocities and made proper reparations?

This doesn't surprise me at all. My friend spent 6 months in Japan in the early 90s and when he returned he told me that they teach that Pearl Harbor was propoganda and not true. He told me that the reason there are so many Japanese visiting the Arizona Monument in Pearl Harbor is to see how far the lie has been carried. After hearing that I lost what little respect I had for the people and culture of that island. It is one of the reasons I will not buy a Japanese car under any circumstance.
i won't buy a japanese car either. i get flamed for it here on ATOT everytime i post it. i'll still post it tho.
i have never purchased a japanese car. never wiil.
it always surprises me when i see so many koreans that do.
Are you Korean? If so, I don't really blame you.
ya i'm korean born, but i'm an american.
however, i also can't deny my heritage either. fact is, the japanese committed atrocities during WWII that ranks up there with Hitler, Atilla the Hun, the Inquisition. you name it, they rank up there as one of the cruelest groups of people ever. and they continue to deny it. it shocks me that people are willing to just ignore all that just for their convenience.

Off topic but on, I remember seeing a show about an exhibit going around about the Japanese biological weapons program in China dubbed Unit 731. If what they were saying was true, it was absolutely horrific, right up there with the holocaust. The exhibit was going around trying to educate everyone because the Japanese seemed to be in complete denial of everything that had happened.
After winning the war, U.S made an agreement with Japan that U.S will not mention Unit 731 in exchange of its biological data. The guy who created and directed the horrible experiments even became a principle of a major Janpanese university under U.S administration in Japan.
Holocaust was bad, but at least Germans just killed most of those people in gas chamber whereas Japanese did all those crazy experiments on people. It's even worse that that U.S closed its eyes on this matter in exchange of data.

You can't hate the people, the instituition/government that is covering up the Nanjing massacre is the one to blame. The younger generation in Japan, since their government chose to censor themselves, know very little of the Nanjing incident. Like you said, you can't hate them because they don't have anything to do with it, but also because they aren't even aware of it. The kind of propaganda they teach the younger generation in their schoosl don't cover the war in great detail. They describe the war as something that helped the other countries, liberating them. BS!
Besides the former prime minster, Tomiichi Murayama's personal one-sentence 12 seconds statement, Japan has yet to make an official apology to her neighboring countries. Needless to say, none of the victims of massacre were compensated.
So, after the massacre in Nanjing, the invasion of China, Korea, as well as other nearby countries, Japan doesn't even apologize, at least not officially. Heck, they even honor their wartime "heroes." Like the rape, torture, murder, execution of people is something to be proud about. Fvcking unblievable. :|

It's kind of like American school boards removing pages of text books that discuss evolution, isn't it?
Evolution is still a theory. It's still arguable. You can't argue with 200,000 dead bodies, though.

do you avoid all japanese made products? it seems in this global economy it's real hard to completely avoid a country's product, especially japanese.
