1.) Your boss is an idiot.
2.) Your boss has never probably been to Japan, and is an idiot.
3.) Your boss is an idiot.
4.) Toilet paper is in public restrooms, at least in ALL the ones I've been to - and the people handing out the things on the street are in fact handing out TISSUES with advertisements on them, not toilet paper.
5.) Hotel bathrooms have built-in bidets and heated toilet seats which are common usage throughout Japan.
6.) If you actually believed the sex thing I have serious, serious fears for the future of the world. Finally, your boss is an idiot.

Japan is generally a sexually very restricted culture publically, but many Japanese girls are sexually active before they hit high school. But no, male prostitutes don't take their virginity. Was your boss high when he talked about this, and how ignorant are you that you even think that your boss knows what he's talking about? "Too much of a generalization?" If something doesn't make sense to you, it's probably not true...regardless of how alien the civilization may be.

*EDIT*

1) How is he an idiot?
2) His wife is japanese and they went to visit her family for vacation. He had no reason to lie.
3) How is he an idiot?
4) Why would he lie about there not being toilet paper? A Hong Kong associate was there when he told us and confirmed it.
5) You don't find build-in bidets and heated toilet seats fascinating? Not many of those here in the states.
6) What is there to believe/not to believe? He said it and I had a good laugh and I wanted to share the good news with all my fellow Americans. Finally, how is he an idiot?

 He was probably in the janitor's closet, and pooped in the floor drain.

Speaking of younger japanese girls. If you want to see them go to the train/subway station. Its like a hangout spot or a place to hit on them. Makes sense because everyone uses them so its the populated and hangout spots like karoke bars and stuff is nearby.

Yea...for wiping your ass. Where did you go to take a crap?

why the hell would i use a tissue to wipe my ass. And I used the hotel toliet to take my crapper, I was too busy to do so durring the day while out and about.

I'll add that my future house will have bidets installed

WTF? You don't wipe your ass? Or do you use a bidet? How many Americans actually have a bidet nowadays?

The part about no toilet paper is untrue. They don't have rolls however, just those little squares that are interfolded. Japanese place adverts on everything, especially strip clubs, and other "attractions" for "Salary Men".

Edit: And he told me in the hotel room bathroom built-in to the toilet seat was one of the water shooters that clean your a$$-hole.
This is true. And let me tell you, it's a little wierd at first, but you get used to be squeaky clean, real quick. He failed to tell you that they are also heated toilet seats, so there's none of that cold shock.
Yes, the traditional Japanese toilet is a squat hole, but Western style sit down toilets are more prevalent in resturants, hotels, and clubs. Basically anywhere Westerners may be regularly.

Edit 2: He also said that it is shameful for Japanese girls to be virgins, so they get their cherries popped by a professional (male prostitute?). Is that too much of a generalization or is it true?

This is a Western aberration of the Japanese moral code. They view sex and bodily functions with a great deal more maturity and openness than we Westerners do. Basically NOT true, especially about the male prostitute.
The first time I went over there with a rock band, the girls made a point of taking birth control pills in front of us in order to re-assure us they were"protected". They didn't mind sharing , either. NO NOT THE PILLS.....

What a prick.

Did I hit a nerve? I wasn't patronizing you, I was merely noting that your boss is ignorant. His limited knowledge of Japanese "culture" apparently makes him a resident expert, and he feels perfectly free to generalize and play off of common Western stereotypes. Read the book "Orientalism," and you'll see what I mean.

Your boss might be referring to the toilets in the subway. They haven't had any toilet paper in them for the last 30 years. Link

Tokyo subway toilets to get paper after 30 years

Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 07:00 JST
TOKYO ? Two Tokyo subway operators have decided to supply toilet rolls to cubicles, 30 years after the courtesy was withdrawn due to rampant paper pilfering.

Hygiene at public toilets has gradually improved from the primitive over the past few decades. But many still lack hand soap and paper towels and some are still paperless.
