the trains run at intervals well under 2 minutes- the highest frequency in the world. And that is a commuter train during rush hour many years ago, not "first class." The shoving doesn't happen quite as much now that the system is so dense that you have many different subway options throughout the city.

Yeah that's what I was laughing at. When the first commuter started pushing the attendant walked over to him. I thought he was going to pull the guy off but instead he started pushing as well!

repost x10000. this is everyday commute in japan all over. i remember reading that tourists actually literally go to subways just to see the phenomenon (and they hire people JUST to push people into the trains). the Japaneses hate it when rude, idiotic tourists just stand around gawking at the sight.

In contrast, when I was in Taiwan, I was astounded at how polite and courteous people were, especially on the subways. As for Japan, it seems less like people are rude than the fact that its so crowded.

then why can't they keep ppl from packing into these fucking trains - and i dont think they're that frequent at locations where this packing happens - it looked like it took more than 2 minutes to shove ppl onto the trains like that.

the whole situation looks like it can be solved without having to shove ppl on trains. stupidity like that pisses me off

When I visited Japan last year, I have to say I was in that pile of people being shoved in once during rush hour. It wasn't this bad though, but we did have a guard pushing us in.

God - what an experience that was!

It wasn't very frequent though - of taking the train maybe about 25 times total, this happened once.
