Don't Japanese have the same sexual urges as everyone else? It is very strange that they are not having sex or most do not seems interested in it (a good portion of the new generations).



I dont get them money excuse either. Because that has not stopped anyone from having protected sex.

That is quite interesting regarding the Porn output in that country and lack of intimate activity between women and men in japan. But it is a poor substitute and you would think people in Japan would yearn for the company of each other during a cold lonely night.It costs nothing to just meet each other and spend some time together between the sheets or at least make out/cuddle.

The only thing I could think of is that the Japanese have a high percentage of the population that fall somewhere in the SPD spectrum. due to Genetics, decades of insular monoculture and breeding.

I'm curious how many would need to be affected in order to achieve this kind of consequence. I suggest the whole idea of a bit too simple. For example, birthrates in the entire developed world are in decline barely achieving a stable population.

I think it's possible there may be a cultural aspect contributing to it as well. In the US we produce plenty of porn as well, but here there is definitely a social stigma if you're going for years and years pleasuring yourself and not getting laid. Perhaps there is no such stigma there.

Several reasons I have observed (only casually).

One is a repressive traditional society that makes it difficult to mingle.

Second is overcrowding. It is hard to get it on when your bedroll is right next to Mom and Dad's.

Third is professionalism. In the same way we have a problem with 40+ year old women trying to have their first (almost ala SitC), Japan is even moreso with both sexes putting career well before family.

But the thing I have noticed is that this is the same in many societies. Once they reach a certain level and stabilize, their population seems to level off or slightly decrease. It may be a HEALTHY human instinct. The reason why some countries have not gotten this is because they have still not reached that balance point and that has short circuited with the "must have kids to continue the line" instinct that is ingrained in all of us.

If you look at the "average" # of kids for most professionals in the US, you will find it rather low, especially when compared to new immigrants or religious groups that are still trying to proliferate (Orthodox Jews would be a good example... Seeing a 30 year old woman with 6 kids in tow, each no more than a year apart, speaks louder than words).

Japan is fascinating. It's also interesting to compare Japan to Mexico. Most people seem to recognize that Japan is a more organized, powerful, and productive society. Yet all the studies I've seen suggest Mexicans are happier than Japanese. I don't think it's too contentious to say that Mexicans are very focused on meeting and bedding women and having children and it shows in their fertility rates (although poverty is an explanation too).

You see this in other East Asian cultures too, even in immigrants to the US. There's the news story of the Korean girl who got rejected from Stanford but then pretended to go there (and actually convinced other students she went there) because of outside pressure. I've also heard of Asians who didn't graduate attending graduation anyway and coming up with stories for their parents as to why their name wasn't called. Obviously, societal pressures are huge to be a "winner". I don't know if this is the same article I read but many people said that most good people are taken by the age of 25. Again, there's that ultra-competitiveness that suggests that if you don't have one of the hottest girls it's just not worth reproducing.

Both cultures have weaknesses but I think Japan might have a more self-correcting culture. Mexico's culture leads to overpopulation and a culture/country that people are running from. Japan's culture seems to breed a lot of unhappiness and crazy competitiveness that is capable of exploding in scary ways (like during WW2) but so what if their population declines for a while? Their island can't generate enough food for its population at the moment. Future generations will have more space and opportunity.
