Anyone know why?

Of course you don't because you are too busy doing the same thing here.

Corporate profits became their number one priorty. Family and kids not allowed.

In fact their men started dying at age 40 from working continous 80 hr weeks.

The country is dying a deserved death just as the U.S. is at the hands of the Corporations.

You ever been to Japan? The work ethic of people there put Americas work ethic to shame.

I wonder how much video games (the massive assortment of immersion game) available is contributing to a declining in educated individuals in certain fields (namely those you need to dedicate a lot of time studying too)

Maybe because Americans prefer to live life rather than becoming a complete slave to a corporation.

So if they work harder than us, they are willingly making themselves slaves to corporations. If people work less than us, they are lazy bastards.

I wonder if the person who owns his own business and probally puts in more hours than 85% of the people on this board is a slave to the corporations. Sorry you have a guilt complex, but they have an insane work ethic. Some people love there work, some people love to live off welfare. Others love to put in there 40, thats it, no more, no less and get on with it. To each there own.

I've had jobs I loved and spent 40, 50 or even 60 hours a week at and did not care, because I loved being there. I had others I dropped down to part time asap because I hated it there. They have a stronger work ethic than us, it is not being a slave to corporations as you put it so eloquently.

Bleh I've gotta say that, in general, I have seen more asians with better work ethics than many of my own american friends. Just looking at people in my high school and then later my friends that went on to college the number one reason they dropped out was sheer laziness. I know/knew for a fact my friends are/were plenty intelligent... it's just that they were lazy as all hell.

Sure there's gotta be a balance between work and play, but it was pretty damn ridiculous at my high school and I can't imagine that laziness just disappeared when people got into their lifetime profession.

Does anyone actually KNOW??? Does this vary between different companies, are there studies that see what the prevailing opinions are? I could easily see both situations occuring: a) people working hard because they love it and b) they have to work.

Interestingly enough I know a person working at Samsung...he said that although they officially work only 8 hours a day, and they should get a lunch...he quickly found that everyone there (they are all koreans) skip their lunch and stay an extra hour each day Because he doesn't like to stand out, he does the same. Of course, he is salaried and gets no extra pay.
t another company I know some people who met a recently transferred Korean from South Korea; The guy said that they get worked SOOO much harder in South Korea~ work here was very chill, relaxed, and slow paced.

And it honestly depends on the company. where I am, some guys are in at 8 and out at 5...whereas others come in at 9am and maybe leave at 10pm..and some go in at 7pm and don't leave till 8pm. It all depends...and I find it hard to say that we work more or less than the Japanese as a whole. I think it really depends on the field in question and even the types of job (QA, R&D, Management, Marketing, etc. etc.)

Koreans work the most annual work hours in the OECD. They work 400 hours more than 2nd place.

Yearly working time

And college tuition, books, and engineering lab fees continue to rise ever higher. I'm sorry but 3-4 hours of Calculus II & III homework every night is not tenable when I have to work full time to afford my college expenses.
Those of us who can do it will fill in your gap, don't worry.

Maybe you should spend less time on your homework then? I spent like 10 hours a week studying in college and ended up with a great job. You can have a "C" average in engineering and still get a $50,000/yr job just fine.

EDIT: not to mention something called "college loans", why work now making 10$/hr when you can get a loan and pay it off once your graduate and make 30$/hr ? (and its subsidized by the government)

Ah yes, the silver spponers speak, big surprise

How is a loan a silver spoon? Unless people that never screwed around with there credit all of a sudden are guilty for being in a position to get a loan..

Dave has failed in every aspect of his life, and he blames it on everyone but himself. He sees everyone else as being more fortunate than him in every regard... and he's right to the extent that we are fortunate we aren't him.
