jasper is nice and quiet

My opinion so far is that my Jasper is way quieter than my old Zepher console. I can barely hear it, whisper quiet is nice. My Playstation 3 is the loudmouth now. I have to turn on the home theatre to drown it out!

In my experience, during idle state, my PS3 (80GB MGS bundle) is louder than my XBOX 360 (Oct 07). However, the 360's DVD drive is much louder than the PS3's BD drive, but that's due to the 360's 12x-speed drive compared to the PS3's 2x-speed drive.

Plus if the DVD noise is too much for you, you can always do the install thing.

When running from HD the Jasper is exceptionally quiet. I almost have to look to even tell if it's on.

Gd stuff. My xenon that will surely die before its useful life is over is pretty quiet as long as games are installed, dvd drive noise is ridiculous though.

He probably has an older PS3; it's hard to believe anything could be noticeably quieter than my PS3, because it's just so quiet. Apparently some of the newer ones are quite a bit louder though.

He probably has an older PS3; it's hard to believe anything could be noticeably quieter than my PS3, because it's just so quiet. Apparently some of the newer ones are quite a bit louder though.

I do have an older PS3, so that also may be why.

I don't doubt that Microsoft can improve their consoles, but they have yet to eliminate the RRoD issue and constantly have "loud" (compared to my PS3) DVD drives. I have yet to play a Jasper unit, but things didn't ever get THAT much better even with the Falcon model (DVD drive was still fairly loud, though much better, RRoD is still possible, etc). I'm just having a hard time believe the Jasper could be such a huge improvement...but I could be totally wrong.

I could believe that running games from the HD would be quieter than some PS3s. I was taking into account the DVD drive.

Pretty much. Every DVD drive I've ever had in my computer has been equally loud when spinning that fast. I never even notice the sound when I have the game volume at a reasonable level. I could see it being a problem if you live with your parents and have to be quiet at night or something like that.

Really? I've never heard drives as loud as the 360's before in my entire life (even fast DVD drives). I just remember always thinking about how loud the 360s were (and still can be, depending on the model) having used a PS3 or not.

I have had my Jasper for a couple weeks now. I would have to agree that it is fairly quiet (much quieter than my launch 360) but in no way compares to how quiet my 60gb PS3 is.

Even just the cooling fans on the xbox are louder than my PS3 when playing a game or watching a movie.
