Jay-Z calls himself the best rapper alive, and he’s made a cool half billion dollars off his talent — but when it comes to giving money to the charity he founded, he’s recently been more of a nickel-and-dime kind of guy.

The hip-hop artist gave just $6,431 to his own charity in 2010, a year in which he earned an estimated $63 million, according to tax records for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund examined by The Daily.

His superstar wife, Beyoncé, made in the neighborhood of $87 million, according to a Forbes estimate — yet she didn’t give her husband’s foundation a dime.

DOUCHE.

$6,431 That's a curious amount. Is that from a donation jar at the local liquor store?

I actually liked this work he did (link below), but generally speaking, his lyrics are so damn stupid. Much like Avril Lavigne. She's a HS drop-out... I don't know what he is.

About his money, I don't care what he does with it.

P.S. Rihanna rocks everything she touches.

Philanthropy is stupid. Want money? Earn it.
I have to admit, I expected some contrary opinions, but not such a blatantly ignorant statement as this.

A billionaire cannot possibly hope to spend all the money they earn so what is there to do but use your unique power to do good? Let's say there's a kid born into poverty who could be college bound and then onward to a better life but there's little or no money to pay for college. Is a scholarship for him stupid? Seriously?

I'm not seeing how he is a douche. While it is nice to give a little if you are rich, it's certainly not a requirement and I don't think someone who has a lot of money and keeps it should be looked upon in a negative way.

The charity has his worthless name on it. He wants the glory, without contributing. I'm pretty sure that makes him a douche.

If he was smart he would give more and pay less taxes. Its not that hard.

Guess he may consider his entire entourage buddy welfare so he kinda gives at the office.....

Rich celebrities need their money to keep their lifestyles up... they're not doing their job if they have to put their own dime in. What they're supposed to do is to convince the poor through their popularity to donate to their self made foundation. Everybody knows this.

I don't really care. I probably wouldn't give much either, even if I had that cash.

I'll agree then, that is a bit douchey. However, if it didn't have his name on it, I wouldnt see a problem with someone not donating.

Not sure I understand that. Isn't he losing the money he is giving away? To get a tax deduction that will end up being less than he gives?

Yea, donations aren't mandatory when you have money. I think /more/ of people who donate, but don't think /less/ of them if they don't. That comes under the category of "cool things to do".

On O&A this morning they were saying he hosted a fundraiser concert, tickets were $2500-$500 each. Yeah Sam said the big number first.

$63 million. He could set a 100 dollar bill on fire every minute for a year and still come out ahead. That much cash coming in and basically ignoring your own charity = superdouche status. I'd be willing to bet he spent 100x more on the birth of his kid than he did on the charity.

Not if you know how to work the system. I'm sure he'll "donate" for a tax deduction to his scholarship fund when his daughter reaches 18.

How is that any skin off his nose? He's not even doing any legwork; he just shows up, does hit bit, and splits. His handlers do all the running around to make the show happen and then deal with the proceeds.

the article ignores how much he's donated in the past, what the initial endowment he put towards it was and all the sweat equity he has into it. Its biased article made out for him to look like a money hungry n***a
