The dude spent more money birthing his stupid kid than he pledged to Katrina victims. I stand by my assertion of douchiness.

im willing to bet you that 99% of the people on this forum did the same thing as him.

Nah, what makes him a super douche is not allowing other people to enjoy their newborns and take care of their wives while he and his queen took over an entire hospital, ruining everybody else's special time.

THIS When I read this story I couldn't believe it. If I was a father and couldn't see my child because his bodyguards stopped me someone would be HURT
It seems like most musician are douches bono, wyclef and his charity etc. Foundations and charities are just scams for rich people so they can avoid the taxman or for PR.

Sitting on a pile of unspendable money until your death--great idea.

What I do w/ my money is my own fucking business and none of yours. Mind your own fucking business and stop with the jealousy.

His money. From what I've seen in P&N, no one likes anyone (i.e. da government) taking money from them, so...

Why should one feel obligate to donate to their own charity?

People start charities for one of two reasons:
1. They care about a cause and want to do something to help
2. They want to look good to other people

If he doesn't care enough to give money to his own charity why should anyone else? It's pretty obvious that he doesn't actually care about his cause if he gives such a tiny amount to it. He did it for reason #2, just to look good without actually doing any good.

He could be using it this way:
Using his big name to get large donations and support from other big name players.

In this recent presentation by Bill Gates (52:50 mark), he says he can understand having a few million because that provides a good amount of security but beyond that there's really nothing special about it.

That guy has enough capital/principal to earn millions by sticking all his money in treasuries yielding 1% at virtually no risk ($10 million per $1 billion per annum)... Compare that to a guy with $1 million making only $10,000 at 1% per annum. One can keep you living in luxury forever, the other runs out pretty quickly. So, he's kind of full of shit.

Don't get me wrong, I agree he is probably doing it for show and could give less a shit about his charities, but him lending his brand does make a bigger impact than on the surface.

No one is saying that his money should be taken from him and donated to the charity.
What we're saying, is that we think that if you are sitting on $420 million and you start a charity with your name on it without making significant contributions, you're a douchebag.
This being said, it seems that he has held at least one bigass fundraiser concert, so I don't judge him as a douche.

Oh, I didn't mean that money should be taken from anyone. I just thought that if there are people that would prefer lower taxes (everyone?), they probably would like to keep more of their money since they earned it. I'm also guessing that the reason is so they can do whatever they want with their money as they please, which covers not giving to charities - even ones they started.

I still think you have to account for his brand and time in addition to his direct charitable givings (even if it's virtually nothing).

You either didn't read my line re: Jay Z raising $1 million for school scholarship or you just chose to ignore it.

PSA: Jay Z doesn't really need to "look good to other people."

He started a charity yet gives almost nothing to his own charity. If anything, Jay-Z seems to be the one that hasn't figured out how charities work.

People seem to really be struggling with the concept that he raised $1.5 million for that charity in 2011. He worked for that $1.5 million - he earned it by putting on a concert, where people came to see him perform - and he gave all of the money to the charity.

All of Jay Z's pals are uber rich, I bet he got a lot to donate to his charity simply because he told them about it. WHAT A DOUCHE he is for helping people!
