Not holding my breath, but
My letter to Officemax:
Upon not receiving the item that I ordered at the delivery date promised, I contacted the website account information which reported:

Order Number: 007XXXXXXX
Current Status: Item(s) shipped,

As well as

Status Codes

CAN - item cancelled

OfficeMax order number: 76XXXXX

A telephone call confirmed that the item has indeed been cancelled; no contact had been made to notify me of this fact prior to promised shipping date.

I am writing this letter in the hope that a commensurate replacement drive can be offered at the same price. If this is not possible, kindly remove my email address from your distribution list (MaxMail list); I build computer systems for a business which is dependent upon reliable and timely delivery of items ordered (and confirmed).

Sincerely yours,

Original Order Confirmation email follows:

I received a package today from OM. Opened it up and voila -- Hi-Val 16x10x40x CDRW Drives. Now, sure, they're not the Iomega drives, but that's still a great replacement if you ask me!!!!

Anyone else get Hi-Val drives as replacements???? Also, anyone know of a rebate?

3 orders. All of them state that the status is CAN but that the order will be delivered on December 10, 2001

Funny, they even shipped a UPS return postage sticker.

As if I'm going to ship these back

<< Welcome to the world of OM. I've gotten so tired of them not having the merchandise, that I don't ever want anything to do with them again. I even sent an email to the President of the Company. I did get a reply and he did make sure I got the stuff, but it really isn't worth the hassle. >>

You dont happen to have his email addy do you?

Here is my attempt at greatness. oh btw when you write a letter don't use words that you got out of a thesaurus. You only confuse stupid people and non english majors. The point of the english language is to convey your message is words that even most lay people can understand, while not sounding like a complete troglodyte.

com·men·su·rate (k-mnsr-t, -shr-)
adj.
Of the same size, extent, or duration as another.
Corresponding in size or degree; proportionate: a salary commensurate with my performance.
Measurable by a common standard; commensurable

I assumed that this meant was larger, but Also had a feelign this meant the same. If your not working for a salary, you usually don't know the exact definition of this word.

Hello,

I recently attempted to purchase a cd-rom drive that you had on your website after thanksgiving. I am writing because I am very unsatisfied with the way my order was handled.

It stated clearly on the website that if it says "OPN" at the confirmation screen that the item will ship. I saw the OPN and proceeded to order this drive. I only need one CDRW drive at my office, but this was an exceptional deal. There were many incredible deals that happened that day that I missed out on because I ordered your drive that explicitly stated that the order said opn that I will have the drive shipped. I received an e-mail later to confirm this. Then, I waited 7 days and no shipment confirmation; no e-mail from your company nothing. I understand that this time of the year can be very busy, and it's hard to find employees to staff your offices, that are only willing to work for that short of period of time. However, I think that 7 days to find out that I will not be getting anything, is unacceptable. In my opinion, a reputable company would offer a solution to this problem that is favorable to both parties. Your company did not. I was told by the CSR that I was out of luck and getting nothing. . I sent someone up to one of your local stores to see if the had this drive in stock, the said they didn?t however they would have them on Monday. I Sent someone up on Monday and the gentleman there said that they were no longer carrying them.

Your company supplies goods to a business that needs them to function. From ball point pens to computer peripherals; these are all needed to make my business money, make me money. Delays in shipping can create downtime and cost us money. On the bright side, I was not that inconvenienced by this item not shipping. What if I ordered a new laptop from you? Or, whole new computer from you? These items not shipping on time would cost me a terrible amount of money and you would be receiving an angrier version of this letter.

Just to summarize I am appalled with every facet of your company. From your .com services, all the way down to the people who gave us erroneous information at the local store. With all the other office supply stores in my local area, I have no reason whatsoever to purchase from your company. Price doesn?t really matter if I don?t get the item.

Sincerely

Racketear: I'm glad you were able to learn a new word.
BTW, my dictionary defines(Merriam/Webster): 1 : equal in measure or extent : COEXTENSIVE <lived a life commensurate with the early years of the republic>
2 : corresponding in size, extent, amount, or degree : PROPORTIONATE <was given a job commensurate with her abilities>
e.g, I want a 12X burner for the same price- duh.

But you're right, considering Officemax, I should have dumbed it down. At least I avoided the 4 letter adjectives that first came to mind. Your letter is better: everybody copy/paste to Omax. And please, don't look this one up : pedantic post.

I printed out my web order which stated that the units were shipped, expected delivery 5 December with the status as CAN, and took it down to the local OfficeMax this evening. I then explained to the evening manager that I couldn't tell from the order if these drives were shipped or what. So he took the printout and checked the online status. He then politely appologized for the confusing printout and proceeded to offer me a substitution. He offered two 12x10x32x HiVal drives for the same price, which I decided to take. Although not nearly as good a deal, I had plans for them as Christmas presents, and decided that this would be okay, since I didn't have to fuss with any Rebates. Don't know if anyone else will be able to get this kind of treatment, but it might be worth a trip to your local OfficeMax.

Remember this deal.
$39.99 at OfficeMax

I filled up the $50 rebate form.

Today I recd $30.

So the net cost worked out to $9.99 plus tax for 12X10X32X.

I am happy

Did anyone receive $50 ?

hmmm, maybe whoever made that $50 rebate form down at iomega made a typo (in multiple places) before sending it to Office Max. i think since both forms goto the same MN rebate center with the same title, they just process it without looking if any of the are for $50... or maybe they pocket the difference.
