They're the Northridge Series, the Studio Series are better. You can get 2 bookshelf S38's from etronics for same price....

I own them and am very pleased. After fretting and listening to many sets, some that cost 10x as much, I couldn't help but purchase these. Search around here and see what others think. Go over to Phil I's site and see his comparison of the N-24s versus other setups, and you'll see that these are a steal.

**edit** Yes, you can buy 2 S-38s. Why shouldn't you? 1) if you own a subwoofer you'll set your reciever to small so the 8" woofer is wasted. 2) This is the entire 5-speaker set. 3) The N and S series are from the same family of drivers, and sound very similar. Trust me, I had both in my home for an in-house demo (thanks BestBuy) and couldn't justify the extra cost of the S series. The only other speakers, IMHO, that compare price/performance are the Swans Divas seen here. I drove to av123's facility 6 months ago and was blown away. But for the $2500 pricetag, I couldn't quite say I heard that great a difference.

Bestbuy had these for $220 just a couple of months ago. My roomie got a set and they sound great. I personally own all JBL Studio Series speakers(so of course I prefer them ) but this is a great set of speakers, especially for the price.

I don't have these specific speakers, but JBL quality in general is very very good. I have had a set of JBL 940 floor speakers (they stand around 4 feet high) for 16 years. They still sound fantastic and rock the house. No need to ever replace them.

The reason these have been going so cheap lately is that JBL is releasing the new northwoods soon if not already, I believe it's called the northwood mark II series. Don't know if there is much of any difference other than appearence, but be aware that you are buying last year's model.

Got these from J&R a few weeks ago for $250 shipped. Missed the $230 deal 'cuz I was waiting for the refund check! So far, so good. They're not $1000 speakers, but for the price, they're clean. Sensitivity could stand to be a little higher. I wonder if the new ones will address that. The center channel is excellent. No complaints at all there.

Good luck. I paired them with the DLS 10" sub from partsexpress for $99. It's a sweet deal. It used to be their top of the line. I guess they're just trying to move them out. I recommend it if you don't have a huge room. The sound has been even better than the JBLs.

I just ordered the NSP1 speakers, and Im going to order the subwoofer from bestpriceaudiovideo.com for $188 plus shipping! Anyone had any dealings with this site? Rated number one at bizrate? The price seems awfully good since everyone else is selling it for at least $299.
