!JBL Home Theater System $288 or $298

The above link is for a REFURBISHED !JBL home theater system. It includes a remote, receiver, DVD changer, 5 satellite speakers, and a subwoofer. I ordered it last week, and hooked it up yesterday. It sounds great, and was a great price. Also, the 5 disk DVD player plays MP3 CDs so you can put many many hours of music on this thing.

Oh, I got the $298 version. I don't know if the $288 version plays MP3s, or any of the other exact specifics of it.

what else can you guys say about the system.....

have any of you compared it to the onkyo 5 speaker/sub/receiver system that retails around that price.......or the yamaha ($300) system that can be found at Fry's electronics??

There don't seem to be specs on the speakers. What wattage are they?

This seems to be a discontinued model so you have to be a little creative to get info on it. Using Google.COM and restricting to site "www.jbl.com", I found the specs to the DVD player here. Using the Google.COM "cached" feature, I found the specs to the speakers here. These are the specs for the receiver, the DCR600II.

Isn't this the same system at JBS's website....MSRP $999.00. Looks like an awesome deal to me. Wish I was looking for Home entertainment sys..

Yeah, I found that page, but it doesn't answer my question about wattage. I was hoping someone that had ordered this set could take a look at the actual speakers and see if the label says. I have a 40W per channel system here, but the DVD input doesn't work anymore. If I can get a total upgrade for sub-$300, then I might consider it. Otherwise, I will just work on replacing the receiver.

It says that it supports mp3 playback, but would it only work with cd's of mp3's.. or would it work with a dvd filled with mp3's?

Well I don't know what the difference in the model SCS135P and SCS135 but here are some speck on the SCS135....

I bought the JBL 600z about a year and a half ago. The system sounded really clean. The difference in the 600z and 600z II is the II plays mp3s and cdrs. No cdr playback for the 600. The reciever is basiclly a harman kardon avr 110. All the speakers are rated for 100w. I would not buy this system for a large room. I noticed gaps in the sound stage and mid bass was very lacking. I paid like $370 for it at UBID and I sent it back. I dicieded to piece a system together on my own and went with a HK 120 and JBL s-center 2 n28s for fronts and n26s for the rears with a 15 inch adire tempest for my sub. I am very happy with Harman Kardon and JBL sound but I will not own another theater in a box. A friend of mine has the ONKYO HT 500 theater in a box that someone asked about and it sounds better then JBL 600. I have seen this Onkyo system go for as little as $179 shipped. Which is a steal for the price but doesn't have a DVD player.

Yeah, so I got this receiver yesterday, and it's a piece of junk. The sub channel doesn't work, and it seems to like shutting itself off at random intervals. I guess I could keep it if I wanted to watch movies with no bass and dont mind turning it back on every two minutes or so. Oh yeah, and the dvd changer has a huge dent in the top and a chip off the face. I dont even know how I am going to ship such a huge thing back to them. Seventy dollars there, now surely as much to ship it back. I got this and a defective monitor on the same day. How depressing..
