So the story continues...
While she still sleeps for the winter, I have collected parts to install on my Red 1991 turbo Miata.
At the end of December I pulled the turbo for a rebuild, a rebuild kit had come with the car, so I figured why the heck not. Well, as it turns out, the turbo shaft had been badly damaged by heat and scored by some of the bearings. Add to that the fact that the turbo rebuild kit was not quite the right kit for the frankenstein turbo the car had come with, I decided that the turbo was a loss and began hunting for a new one.
I found a deal on CL: two new turbos in the box, 60 trim compressor, $225 for both. Found them, bought them, done and done. Swapped out the wastegate flange from the old turbo onto one of the new ones and I think I'm back in business. A view of the carnage after all was said and done:
In addition to the turbo bits I have also gotten: aluminum lug nuts, stainless brake lines, quick-bleeder screws for the brakes, a stainless clutch line, aluminum radiator, red radiator hoses, new heater core, new heater hoses, hella supertone horns, front strut bar, NB shock mounts for the rear suspension, and a new intake manifold gasket.
My computer's SD card reader is on the fritz, so pictures are at a minimum, unfortunately, I will update more when it is fixed. For now, here are a few on the parts to install:
In the pipeline: new intake manifold bolts, coolant overflow bottle, oil breather bottle, new stereo and speakers, four 15x7 wheels for auto-x slicks.
Work starts this Sunday. :awe:
