Ordered a new oil pressure sender. The old one that had worked in the old block was 1/8-27 NPT thread (standard), whereas the block is 1/8-28 BPT thread. So the old sender's threads were totally borked. I used a cheapie switch sender that was lying around just to see if anything was totally blown, and to get it back on the road when I did the engine swap, but now it's time to redo it right!

Got a VDO sender, 0-80PSI with 10-180ohm range to use with a 1/8-28BPT to 1/8-27NPT adapter.

VE Analyze Live is awesome. Within 20 minutes of driving we had a decent base tune for our Turbo Jeep. Even after a few hours we still had to hand smooth a few spots of the map due to a 10 hp dip on the dyno since it was too rich. Still its way better then doing it all by hand. I’m curious to see how KnockSense works out for you and how much timing you can dial in under 3000 RPMS when its spooling. I’ve always been too conservative down low which made things feel laggy.

How is your idle? Its helpful have to keep the 4 cells around idle the same values for fuel and spark depending on how you map is scaled so otherwise it would fluctuate. VE Analyze Live likes to mess those up unless you fix the settings so it ignores those cells.

Nice to see it on the road again. Do you autocross at Fort Devens in Ayer MA at all?

At first I was really frustrated with the KnockSense, I couldn't get it to not give false indications without sacrificing a ton of sensitivity at lower RPMs. But after adding in an attenuation 100k POT (cranked all the way to 100k, so you could use a resistor) I did the normal procedure: adjust the main dial until it triggers at idle, then crank it 15-20deg back. No false indications through the entire rev range at idle, winning. I am also interested in how much spark tuning I can do with it, safely. I already advanced the cruise cells by 4-5deg with no negative effects. Lower RPM/higher load is next, to help spool like you say.

Idle fluctuates a little bit, but not much. Setting the minimum spark column to 1,000rpm helped a bit it seems. Keeping just a few cells in one column that cover all idle rpms keeps this basically constant, and freed up some resolution for actual operating ranges, which was also nice.

No autox at Fort Devans, it's over 2hrs away. When I autox I go with SCCNH at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (parking lot, anyway) which is around 1:10 away.

Apparently Momo made a steering wheel and shift knob that would match my car...

$250 for a wheel, used, on eBay... $380 for the wheel+knob... my budget was gone long ago...

My birthday is coming up, ATG... ^_^

In actual progress, my cheapie catch tank arrived today, so I installed it. It replaces the breather tank that loved to spew oily vapors everywhere, especially under boost. This is mostly a comfort/health mod, I'm sure breathing in aerosolized engine oil is bad for you.

Disclaimer: this is a somewhat temporary install until I figure out a cleaner way to mount it.

Itty-bitty catch tank strapped onto the bar of the old breather tank.

My whole negative pressure intake is the air filter... so I figured out a way to attach a hose to it. I modified the barbed-to-AN fitting from the breather tank to fit into a hole I drilled into the air filter. A rubber grommet goes into the hole, and a barbed fitting expands it into place nicely. Nothing can get sucked into the intake and it's sealed up really well.

Also, went to an import car show on Sunday. Here is some Supra pron, my favorite car at the show:

There was a dyno sheet to back up the license plate claim too... :awe:

...what kinda turbo did that Supra have on it, how much boost, and what kind of fuel?

My inquiring mind wants to know.

Longer-term review on the AMSoil transmission oil: pretty darn good. It's not some magical cure-all for a transmission, but it turned severe cold notchiness into barely noticable cold notchiness and lets me shift into 2nd under heavy load (i.e. WOT runs) without much argument. Definitely a big improvement over Red Line MTL.

FM hub stands finally shipped, should get them next week.

If you're serious I'm gonna punch my hand with your face.

Harlequin Miata was cool.

Just kidding:

Black2NA finished the bodywork and harlequin paint job.

A few subtle differences: shaved antenna mount, sanded rear tail lights to get rid of the embossed lettering, and chip guard on the rockers.

I am quite pleased with how it came out.

Here is an OEM light, then a sanded light below it. Black2NA clear coated them after I sanded the numbers off. Obviously the finished product is on the car.

Everything needs a wash and then a buff. Minor details.

Phew. Okay. I will not have to murder anyone.

Although, I just noticed: those little inserts below your headlights match each other. WTF?!

Got my Flyin' Miata hub stands today. Took about 1 hour to do a front axle alignment having never aligned a Miata before. Very impressed with how easy it is to use and how much access you get to suspension bolts for adjustment. Very impressed, highly recommend. They are available with different hub plates that can accommodate 4 or 5 lugs with 12mm or 14mm studs/bolts. I bought some copper tubing I think I can use to adapt 12mm lugs to plates designed for 14mm lugs.

Still can't figure out why it feels like the drivetrain is rocking around a lot... will have to poke more at various bolts and mounts.

Thinking more and more about a PnP COP ignition conversion. More power, better top end, smoother engine in general... no downsides other than I'll be $300 poorer.

Paint work came out well. Did you have to do any more work other then the rocker rust repair? I know the paint sucked on the finish panel and the passenger quarter took forever to try and get straight due to an old repair.

Thanks. Just shaved the antenna on this go-around. Black2NA had done some patchwork on the front fenders last spring when they got painted. Everything else was pretty good. He used a pretty aggressive sanding disc (8in w/ 80grit?) to get everything smooth and straight REALLY fast.

Ordered a proper OEM oil pressure sender after fighting with a VDO unit that just won't work right.

Also ordered a boost controller and an inexpensive oil cooler kit. 10-12psi here we go.
