The Z28 got it's name because 28 was the next number up in GM's option package, denoting performance. Z28's were develpoed for SCCA eligibility.

Gonna need some elaboration on those answers to see if you've really got it

Just guessing on the first two, but i'll stick with A/C at the inception of second-gen in 1970.
IIRC, all the 'Z' packages had been used on other vehicles as their performance package, and 28 was the next sequential number available. Hence Z/28 for the Camaro.
That's the best I've got, I guess I'm missing something.....?

What is the difference between interference and non-interference engine and whats the benefit to interference design?
When the timing belt/chain breaks on a zero interference engine you will not bend valves as the valves are recessed such that fully open with the piston at top dead center there is still some clearance.
You forgot the advantage of interferance: An interferance design generally allows better optimization of the cylinder head/combustion area. Interferance designs tend to be more efficient, yielding either lower fuel consumption for a given amount of power or yielding more power for a given amount of fuel consumption.

As for Steve McQueen's hubcaps, if you're asking about Bullitt then the bad guys' car (I forget, I know it was MOPAR, I can pop the tape in to check if I decide not to be lazy) then it lost 5 hubcaps, though I believe that two of the losses are show twice because the same thing is shown from different angles which means that they really only lost three hubcaps. McQueen's Mustang has styled wheels and no hubcaps. Hence, McQueen's Mustang does not lose any hubcaps.

It was a '73 Charger, iirc.
Evidently I'm confused somewhere, here.
I'd read this awhile ago, and 5 was not the number mentioned.

John - 4-9/16" bore?? Thems is some big jugs! :Q

Godmare- no A/C because the Z had a solid lifter camshaft, and required periodic adjustment. The AC compressor would have hindered valve cover removal. The '70-'72 LT1s still had solid cams.
1973 was the first year of a hydraulic cam, and A/C was made available

You're pretty much right on the name....the Rally Sport package was option #Z22, the Super Sport package was option #Z27.

Places are saying 8 hubcaps. I've never seen that many. Checking. Will edit this thread with what I see from my recording.

ZV

EDIT: Have just re-watched it. The most I can stretch is 7 hubcaps. That's if I neglect that two of the "lost" hubcaps are clear repeats (Charger loses a hubcap and we immediately cut to a view from MacQueen's car where that same hubcap is being shown after it has come off the Charger and is rolling away) and that one "hubcap" looks more like something that the Charger threw up after it ran over it (object is thrown up from the middle of the front of the car, and it does look hubcap-esque, but I can't be sure). So we have, based on my observation, 4 confirmed, one questionable, and 2 clear double-counts. It is worth noting, however, that at least one of the four hubcaps that are confirmed lost was lost twice (Charger lost two hubcaps in clearly different portions of the chase but is shown later in the chase with three hubcaps).

Yes. I have a Sony SL-HF750 SuperBeta Hi-Fi deck that I use often. What's so wrong about that?

Also, see my last post for an update on the Bullitt hubcap issue.

Haha, reminds me of a Simpsons episode....Snake swipes their VCR, looks at it while getting away...."Oh no! Beta!"

I cite that episode all the time when I'm talking about my Beta. I love the machine.

Back to automotive trivia and in keeping with the Bullitt theme: True or False; the Mustang used in Bullitt had a limited slip differential.

Dang you! You can also see a LOT of axle tramp as he backs up right before smoking that right rear too.

What was the first year/make/model Chevy used their 'SS' trim in concept and production (different years)?

Ok smart guys, figure this one out.

What make, model and year did the first seat belt come as an option on an American made automobile ?
(Not lap belts, seat belts)

What make, model and year did the first air bag come as an option on an American made automobile ?

Nope

Hint 1: The 'concept' SS car was manufactured, but has never been offered in SS trim.
