Guys you are really over thinking how to take a plane down with an AR-15.

You simply sneak onto the plane and shoot everyone from the inside. :awe:

I read that most modern airliners can in fact be landed by a non-pilot crew member or even a passenger rather easily. They basically have an "auto-pilot landing" button or some crap in which a computer lands the plane.

Em no. Pilots are there for taking off and landing. Once they hit 35000 its autopilot all the till final approach or something goes wrong. And no anyone can't land it as Air France 337 was a perfectly good plane flown into the ocean by experienced pilots. A normal passenger has no hope.

a passenger pilot is better than no pilot at all though, right?

Autopilot disconnects automatically as soon as the plane go off its flight plan. Air France the Autopilot disconnected and the captain was taking a nap. He came in 1 minute 30 seconds after it disconnected and by then his pilots were already busy flying it into the ocean.

Regardless if these guns could take down a plane, weapons of mass murder capable of killing hundreds a minute do not belong in ordinary people's hands.
This thread is about guns not WMD. Go troll elsewhere.

This is getting off from the original topic however ...

Pilots routinely use ILS/autopilot to to align with the runway and get on the glide slope. Lots of times this isn't turned off until the "decision height" which is around 200 feet. The pilot then flares and does the touchdown.

Large passenger jets and some smaller ones also have an autoland system which first saw some commercial use in the 1960s. This system can automate the entire approach, flare, touchdown, and breaking assuming the runway has the required instrumentation. I have heard the fully automated landing isn't used that often by pilots unless in extremely poor visibility because they still prefer to do the final bit themselves.

You are quite correct. A military weapon like the Phalanx CIWS should not be in civilian hands.

AR15? I am not sure you could get up to hundreds a minute even if the people were standing there like lemmings with fire rate, magazine reloads and sweep times. That would be assuming 100% accuracy / kill shots. IE not reality at all.

Antigun people should be forced to actually shoot these guns before they make these grandiose claims.

A few rounds into the cockpit at takeoff or landing would almost certainly have a detrimental effect as well.

The critical points for it to be detrimental would be right at the point of takeoff or landing if ya get both pilots. Keeping in mind you have to hit a human that will be moving past you at between 150 and 200 miles per hour. Good luck with that.

Pfft, I've sniped a few jet and chopper pilots in BF3, easy sauce. Just have to position yourself to where the jets are coming at you straight on and you have a clear view of their cockpit. Also make sure you have squad suppression on.

Dipshit at Sandy Hook did well enough.

THough I do agree gun haters should be forced to deal with that which they seek to ban.

As sad as the incident is, 27 people over 14 minutes is not "hundreds of people a minute."

-Following comments are based on if the media reports are true-

The incident is also the reason we need to enforce the existing laws such as not allowing the mentally unstable access to them. It was reported that Adam was diagnosed ASD and possibly autistic. ASD's tendency towards intense interest and Autisim's potential to disconnect the person from their actions (ie lack of feeling or remorse) is a bad combination of ailments to hand a weapon to.

It was stated that he was denied purchase of firearms (I am not sure on this.) So he then shot his mother and stole all of her weapons and went a rampage.

My understanding is the legal side of the incident worked. Adam then chose to kill his mother and steal hers.

At best I could see this as "failure to secure / properly store" but the person who would be charged with that was killed by the thief.

-Posted here because I am not uncaring, but I hate seeing small children being paraded around as the reason for control. Reality is a criminal killed a person and store those weapons and proceeded to commit more crimes.-

Agreed.

Something else I find really annoying is the people blaming video games and saying things like "Call of Duty trained them to shoot". Common, shooting up a bunch of defenseless kids do not require any sort of military training, let alone 'training' from a video game.

I never said it was hundred of people a minute. I said he did well enough.
Much as it bothers me its actually a solid argument against civilians owning assault rifles.

UNRELATED TOPIC: fuck you if all you do is argue over the definition of assault rifle. People are dying you ignorant stupid selfish cocksuckers.

Thank you, good day.

Yeah you just lucked out to reply on a reply chain going back to some one claiming an AR15 (granted in the post the weapon wasn't defined) can kill hundreds of people a minute, so the reply was not directed 100% to you. No worries.

It doesnt make solid argument for restricting civilians from owning these weapons.
