Jesus! I blew out my Dremel. What now?

I was cutting tonight and cutting my antec case was taking forever. I thought those blades would be like a knife in butter. Boy was i wrong. Took me like 45 to get like 1 ft. To top it off the thing was smoking so i would let it cool and start over. Finally it burst into flames and had an electrical fire. To make matters worser it is my friends dads. Now i have a half cut case. What can i do now?????

Will home depot cut out the rest of it for me????? or is thier a cheap solution. I mean hell is a dremel suppose to blow out like that?

Yikes!. Get/use a jigsaw from now on. Jigsaws will do a better job, and much, much faster as well. The only thing is, dad might want a replacement Dremel instead of a jigsaw.

jigs are sooo much faster. and plus, you should get some reenforced cut off wheels, I use the diamond coated ones.

Another vote for a jigsaw. That's what I used to cut my Chieftec case. Took about 5 minutes max

I learned this lesson the hardway. After spending nearly an hour and a half turning my 1-piece case cover into a 2-piece, I ended up going through 2 cutting blades. Not only that, but the cut was awful. Jaggy, not straight, and too much freaking material was removed. When summer comes and I can bear to have my computer dissasembled for more than 6 hours at a time, I'll probably spend another 50 bucks correcting the problem.

Ugh. I hate doing shite without asking questions first.

Of course, the hardest lessons learned are the ones that teach you the most.

Dremel is best for smaller things, like small details. A jigsaw is the weapon of choice for windows. And I reccomend a hole saw for fans.

Dremel has a warranty for some years offering a free replacement if the unit breaks. I know because I blew mine out too and got a replacement for cost of shipping there and back. Give them a call.

Man, how do you blow out a Dremel? What speed was it set at? Maybe you were just using way too much pressure. My Dremel only gets warm when I'm using it.
But as it's been recommended here, use a jigsaw and a good fine-tooth blade for long, straight cuts. It goes so much quicker - but again, don't try to push it, or you might fry a jigsaw too. Just a note about this though, the blade will likely begin to dull after maybe 4 feet (at least the one I used did) - when this happened, I used the dremel to cut the end of the blade that goes into the jigsaw - this exposed a new cutting surface, as only a small portion of the blade is dulled by the thin case.

hmmm it all depends on how you use it....

the first time i cut a blowhole(92mm) i used 3 cutoff wheels!!!

then now, after about the 6th hole i've cut, i only used 1/3 of a cutoff wheel for a 120mm blowhole.. same material!!
depends on how you use it..

and were you using reinforced cutoff wheels? it's near impossible to cut steel with regular cutoff wheels, i use the fiberglass reinforced ones.. they cost a lot though.. about a little more than $1 for each wheel....

I use the reinforced wheels now too; the regular ones are just pitiful for anything more than soft wood; the heavy duty wheels go kind of quick on steel. The fiberglass ones are pretty good; cheapest I've seen them is Home Depot, but I haven't really shopped around much. They do the job for me, and hold up quite well.

I bought my B & D RTX at Walmart, they have a 90 day return policy, when ever I return one the 90 days starts over again..So when one dies I go exchange for another no questions asked. I just picked up my third one Tuesday

I'm gonna be using plasma cutter It's WAY over kill, but I should be able to cut any shape window in about 15-30 seconds, basically as fast as you can move the torch it'll cut it.

Now I wouldn't recommend this is you don't plan on repainting it, because even though the case won't really get THAT hot, it may still burn the paint.. We've already cut 3/4" steel at about 2" per minute(that's fast for that thick of metal)..

I have cooked 2 dremels from HomeDepot..they have a 5 year return policy from Dremel...1 year at the Depot.
