Jesus, water finally set up

And guess what? CPU temp: 38...

Eh? I'm sure everything is going right...everything is hooked up as it should be and I don't have any leaks or bubbles in the line...

Also, the water in my res is sloshing around quite a bit and I can hear it, any suggestions?

HELP!!

Actually now that I think about it, I kinda like the sloshy sound. It sounds like a creek or brook and its rather peaceful.

But enough of the gay talk, could it be that my temps are so high because I put too much AS? I put twice as much as I should have...2 grains of rice instead of 1...does this make that much of a difference?

it could make the difference. I would redo it, and just follow the instructions.

IE: put a rice directly on the water block, smear it around and around with a coffee filter until you cant really see it (when you hold up to the light, it looks "dull"). Put the rice on the cpu die and put the waterblock back on. Since you have an A64 with the IHS or whatever, you might have to use "a ball" of AS. I think the "rice" was only for unprotected cpus like the AXP.

nah use rice, the unprotected CPUs were meant to have thin layer spread all over the core/die.....and it was supposed to ooze out...

Ok, I'm running 2.7ghz @ 1.6v right now, Prime95 load temps are just under 50, which is ok (better than air) but not what I was expecting. Do you guys think that "wait 1 week for AS5 to settle" thing is in effect right now? And if it were, how many degrees would it drop it? Thanks guys.

P95 been running for about 5 mins and everything's stable so far.

Ok, I changed the thing around from 270 x 10 to 246 x 11, voltage at 1.63~, been running for a while now. I'm still kinda pissed at the 50~ degree load temps though...

you wont get extreme cooling with water, the best u can do is ambient, just as a good HSF combo can get you. Water really kicks in when you are overclocking, or whenyou are puttin a fullloadon ur comp because it disappates the heat much faster than a HSF. Thats wen you will be amazed at the temps staying low

Chilled water is the way to go. Get a mini fridge. You can store your drinks in it too.

One more concrete example to show the worthlessness of water cooling. Is the danger of leaking destroying thounsands of dollars worth reduction of couple degrees?

Had a buddy that just had a very nice water setup. Temps were disappointing to say the least.

Go chilled water, or it just doesn't seem like it's worth it.

dont worry about your temps.. the msi neo2 temps are messed up... my cpu temps always varies on reboot so don't worry about it. your system is very good and you don't need to worry about it You can ask anyone on the forums at xtremesystem.org

That msi board gives the wrong temperature. Even with the bios update (but you should still update it). Run MBM motherboard monitor and it should give you a more accurate reading.

2 grains of rice is fine. As long as you didn't slosh the whole tube on, it should be fine.

Water cooling, when done properly, is far more effective and can be much quieter than air cooling. It's not "worthless", and the "few" degrees can be QUITE significant.

You don't really get watercooling for extreme drops in running temps. You get it to eliminate most of the noise associated with a fan. What kind of watercooling setup do you have?

i've never heard of anyone getting a watercooling setup to avoid noise associated with a fan... as the other guys have said, chilled water is the way to go :thumbsup:

what are you using in your setup? (liquid)

True, the noise factor is big, but it seems he was getting it more for overclocking. The price/performance just doesn't seem viable.

I believe my buddy paid about $300.

My XP-90 has better temps ( or close ) cost way less, and is relatively quiet @ 2000rpms..

Just because some people don't know how to properly setup a water cooling system doesn't mean that water cooling is worthless. Are you stating this through personal experience?

I setup my first water cooling rig a few months ago and am currently running a lot cooler than I ever did with air coolers (eg. I was using the Swiftech MCX775-V before I switched to water) Just to give you an idea here are a comparison of temps before and after water cooling:

CPU on AIR: 32°C @ idle / 52°C @ full load
CPU on H20: 23°C @ idle / 32°C @ full load

GPU on AIR: 38°C @ idle / 58°C @ full load
GPU on H20: 32°C @ idle / 39°C @ full load

I think anybody would agree that this kind of temperature drop is definitely worth the trouble of water cooling, and besides, installing a water cooling setup can be a whole lot of fun and if done right, leaks are a non-issue. Oh, and as a bonus, my system is quieter than ever before, no more noisy CPU and GPU fans.

So I say, don't knock it until you try it
