I did something similar to this once on the hudson river near battery park. A mother duck and her trail of babies, the mother jumps into the river and only half her babies followed (she was teaching them to swim I guess), anyway, there were about six babies freaking out and I hear the mother quacking in the distance so I guided the ducks for a mile or two until the saw her and worked up the courage to jump in. I didn't touch them as she would most likely abandon them if she smelled something foreign.
My grandfather was in the hospital years ago, I was driving down to see him.
Stopped at the light, it was a fairly busy intersection.
A Mother duck and a trail of babies come walking up, sit there, patiently wait on the walk light, then proceed to cross.
Everyone was just sitting there watching, the mother had actually learned how to do that, was pretty cool.
